For the past 14 years, the Kroc Center has been a success beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. Most recently, community members have begun to request an expansion of services. Currently, we are in the preliminary drawing stage of an improved recreation field and an expansion of the wellness center with additional parking underneath. This expansion would take place on the existing field. An artist concept drawing is shown on the next page. Funding is a crucial factor in order for the project to go forward. The proposed funding is a combination of a capital campaign, grants, and financing. While we are not ready to go fully public with the project until the funding is secured, we wanted to give you a courtesy preview with the optimistic expectation that the funding will be acquired.
Important proposed project components: •An elevated sports deck featuring an outdoor arena soccer field with 132 additional parking spaces below. The eastern edge of the sports deck is designed to be at the same elevation as the current Preschool playground on the west side of the Administration building. •The proposed wellness center addition will be on the sports deck as a one-story building. The wellness center addition will be approximately 17,311 square feet. The preliminary plans have been developed by Kenneth D. Smith Architect & Associates. This proposed plan was developed with the help of our Kroc Center Advisory Council and The Salvation Army’s Metropolitan Advisory Board Property Committee. In addition to these established community groups, we want to be open and available to the interests, ideas, and concerns of our neighbors.
