Dear Parents, It is a pleasure to share with you that the school ministry at Holy Trinity is thriving. Our mission-driven school has been identified by parents, students and staff as a strong Catholic community with a challenging academic program, encouraging student learning at all levels. At present, over 98% of current families with K-7th grade students are returning. We are pleased to announce that, for the 2015-16 school year, Holy Trinity again will offer the lowest tuition for any parish school in the Sacramento Diocese – nearly one-third lower than other schools! Our incredible rates are due to the fact that Holy Trinity is a Stewardship parish, where members collectively support each other’s needs and our parish’s sixty ministries. Receiving the “Worshiping Steward” tuition rate is not automatic simply because a family is Catholic or even simply because a family has registered at Holy Trinity Parish. In justice, the parish will only offer this greatly reduced rate to those families who have made – and are living out – a conscious and deliberate commitment to a Stewardship Way of Living. We therefore take very seriously the covenants our parishioners make to attend Mass each Sunday, share their talents in ministry, and use their treasure to build God’s kingdom. In determining tuition categories, we will consider: 1. the family’s Stewardship Commitment in all areas of time, talent and treasure for the coming year (this commitment is to be made during Stewardship Renewal in March 2015) 2. the family’s Stewardship Commitment in all areas of time, talent and treasure for the current school year (this is not applicable to families new to the parish) We also readily acknowledge that not every family will wish to make this extraordinary level of commitment, and we are pleased to offer a very affordable tuition for these families as well. It is with heartfelt gratitude that I offer thanks each day for the marvelous community at Holy Trinity. I am blessed to have such a wonderful staff with whom to work, supportive parents, and the wonderful children we are blessed to teach and love each day. Blessings,

Trisha Uhrhammer School Ministry Principal

2015-16 Tuition Rates Our Base Tuition Rate It costs Holy Trinity Parish $6947 to educate each child in its school ministry. However, in order to make a Catholic education more affordable, our parish has purposely chosen to set tuition at just 70% of the actual cost of educating each student. The Base Tuition is offered to every family and, during the 2015-16 school year, is:

Actual Cost of Educating Each Child - Investment by Parish for All Students Base Tuition

Each Student $6947 - $1997 $4950

Eligibility for Additional Reduction As a Stewardship parish, Holy Trinity is unique in the Sacramento Diocese. We are also unique in the financial investment our parish makes in both our faith formation and Catholic education ministries. Since the school ministry opened, the parish has invested nearly $2.5 million toward the ministry’s annual operating costs. While the average parish in the Sacramento Diocese contributes 3% of its school’s annual operating cost, Holy Trinity contributes nearly 25%. This extraordinary contribution is possible due to the dedicated stewardship of all parishioners at Holy Trinity. Our parishioners’ stewardship of all the blessings God has provided is manifested in how our parishioners generously share their time, talent and treasure in our parish. The net effect is that our lowest tuition is about 45% less than most comparable Catholic schools. For families who have made – and are actively living – a significant commitment to a Stewardship Way of Living, the parish is pleased to offer an additional tuition reduction from the Base Tuition rate. We are pleased to offer this second discount to families who apply for and are approved as Worshiping Stewards:

Actual Cost of Educating Each Child - Investment by Parish for All Students Base Tuition - Additional Discount for Worshiping Stewards

First Child $6947 - $1997 $4950 - $2450

Worshiping stewards are defined as registered families at Holy Trinity Parish who have made – and are living out – a conscious and deliberate commitment to a Stewardship Way of Living. They are active and contributing participants in the life of Holy Trinity Parish, and they enrich the entire parish community by attending Mass at Holy Trinity each Sunday, by sharing their talents in parish ministry, and by sacrificially returning to God a significant portion of the treasure with which God has blessed them. Although we invite every family to consider for the Worshiping Steward rate, please know that we take very seriously the commitments made to return to God our gifts of time, talent and treasure. Receiving the Worshiping Steward tuition rate is not automatic simply because a family is Catholic or because a family has registered at Holy Trinity Parish. In justice, the parish will only offer this greatly reduced rate to those families who have made – and are actively living – their conscious and deliberate commitment to a Stewardship Way of Living.

Worshiping Steward Q&A Q: A:

What is an example of a family eligible for the Worshiping Steward tuition rate? Joe and Kathy Smith made a conscious and deliberate decision to adopt a Stewardship Way of Living, acknowledging God as the source of all good things in their lives. Taking their commitment seriously, the Smiths made a covenant with God – and their faith community – to return to God the first fruits of their time, talent and treasure. In terms of time, Joe, Kathy and their children attend one of the five Masses offered at Holy Trinity each weekend. They are committed to making community worship a priority in their busy lives. In terms of talent, after reviewing the list of 60 ministries which serve our parish, Kathy volunteers in the school ministry as an art docent, and Joe serves as a Eucharistic Minister for the parish. In terms of treasure, after praying, the Smiths committed to make a sacrificial tithe a long-term goal for their family. The Smiths have a family income of $96,000 annually (the average in our county); this year, they decided to commit 4% of their annual income (or $3840) this year to God’s work in the parish.

Q: A:

Q: A:

What if my family does not attend Mass each week? As Catholic Christians, aware that our lives are gifts from God, we are both called to and want to make “time for God” a priority in our busy lives. Most importantly, we exhibit our love for God by joining together each Sunday with our Holy Trinity community to worship as the Body of Christ. Centering our lives around the Eucharist, we make it the “source and summit” of our life as disciples of Christ. It would be incongruous therefore to seek to be a “Worshiping Steward” if one doesn’t make communal worship a deliberate priority each Sunday.

What factors determine whether a family will receive the Worshiping Steward rate? The parish will consider: 1. the family’s Stewardship Commitment in all areas of time, talent and treasure for the coming year (this commitment is to be made during the parish’s Stewardship Renewal in March 2015) 2. the family’s Stewardship Commitment in all areas of time, talent and treasure for the current school year (this is not applicable to families new to the parish)

Q: A:

What happens if a family doesn’t fulfill its commitment of time, talent, and treasure? Recognizing that we are a community of believers called to love each other as God loves us, our parish community wants to help those families which, for legitimate reasons, cannot fulfill their commitments to the community. We realize that factors beyond your control – such as job loss or the need to support an elderly relative – may cause you to need to alter your commitment to the parish. Whenever a family cannot fulfill its commitment, the parent(s) should meet with the pastor, who will work with a family to make other arrangements, as needed. No student would ever be turned away or removed from a tuition category because, through no fault of its own, a family cannot fulfill its commitment. When families decide, however, not to seek a personal meeting with the pastor to discuss their particular hardship, families wishing to re-enroll at the school for the next school year will automatically enroll at the “Base Tuition” category.

Living as a Worshiping Steward Each year, parishioners at Holy Trinity are invited to make an annual commitment to a Stewardship Way of Living. Stewardship isn’t a program or just a way to bring in more volunteers or money. Stewardship is a Way of Living – where Christians see everything good as a gift from God. Trying to repay the Lord for all He has done is impossible. Instead, as the Bishops’ Pastoral Letter on Stewardship explains, we humbly recognize that a Christian steward is “one who receives God’s gifts gratefully, cherishes and tends them in a responsible and accountable manner, shares them in justice and love with others, and returns them with increase to the Lord.”

TIME

God gives all humans 24 hours in a day and 168 hours in a week. For each of us, time remains our most valuable commodity. We obviously have a need to balance all the different and often competing demands in our life. We need to find time for work, family, service to others, recreation, rest and, of course, prayer and worship. But as Christians, aware that our lives are gifts from God, do we make “time for God” a priority in our busy lives? Do we reserve the one hour each week where we join together on Sunday with our parish community to worship as the Body of Christ? Do we center our lives around the Eucharist, making it the “source and summit” of our life as Catholic Christians? Is daily prayer simply a task on our schedule that can be easily moved, postponed or canceled? Do we make time to pray each day – acknowledging the Lord’s dominion in our lives, thanking Him for the blessings He has given us, and laying our needs and the needs of others at His feet?

Prayer and Worship

TALENT

Worshiping Stewards join in communal worship each Sunday at Holy Trinity, have a vibrant prayer life and commit themselves to ongoing formation.

&

Talents are the special gifts that are uniquely ours. We hold the conviction that every member of our faith community has been given talents as gifts from God. It is because God gave us these special talents that we are each able to earn a living and provide for our families. And it is these same God-given talents that should be shared with others for the enrichment of our faith community. Holy Trinity Parish boasts over sixty ministries and affiliated organizations. Do we share the talents which God has uniquely given to us? Do we use our interests, passions, skills and abilities to further God’s kingdom in our parish?

Sharing in Ministry

Worshiping Stewards return talents given as gifts from God through service in two or more ministries.

&

TREASURE

For many of us, it isn’t easy to admit that our treasure has more to do with God’s benevolence than with our own hard work or brilliant mind. We are stewards – not owners – of the money and possessions in our care. All we have – including money – are gifts from God, who gave us these gifts so that we would care for them and find ways to use them to improve the lives of others. Our spending habits say a great deal about our values, priorities, desires, and passions. How much of our monthly income do we spend on our desires and wants? How much is spent on dining out, activities and entertainment, the latest electronic gadget, or paying on a car or house? How much do we give back to God each month in order to further the work of his kingdom? Most of us might be surprised to find where God falls in our list of spending priorities.

Sacrificial Giving

Scripture tells us “Honor the Lord with the first fruits of all you produce.” (Proverbs 11:24) Do we deliberately plan each year for how we will honor God with the treasure He has given us? Have we established a purposeful annual plan for honoring God with our treasure, or do we just dig into our pocket or purse during the weekly collection at Mass? Does giving back to God come first in our list of spending priorities? Worshiping Stewards return to God a significant portion of the treasure He has given and commit to journey toward a tithe that is both sacrificial and significant.
