YOUTH CONFIRMATION IS APPROACHING If you have a student 6th grade or older who has not been through the Confirmation experience, this is for you! Starting January 14, we'll be embarking on a 15-week journey of faith together through Confirmation. Each week, we will learn more about the Bible, about theology, about the history of our faith and about what we're called to do as Christians today. Confirmation is the opportunity for our young people to take their faith on for themselves in a real, tangible way. If you think this is the right experience for your student, please fill out the registration form located at playlearnshare.org/youth. If you would be interested in being a youth confirmation mentor, visit playlearnshare.org/youth and fill out the mentor form!

#SIXWORDADVENT

STOCKHOLDER SALES BEGIN SOON Family Ministry would like to invite all current Stockholders and any future Stockholders to the Annual Stockholders Dinner on January 21, 2018. Beginning at 6 p.m., Family Ministry will share all of the goodness of Kid and Youth Crew! Stockholder Sales begin in January and run for four weeks and will support the 2018 vision for Children and Youth Ministries. With our goal of raising $15,000, we will be impacting the lives of hundreds of kids in our community. You will have the opportunity to contribute funds that will ultimately lead to kids’ lives being impacted and changed for the better. You can contribute via a Family Ministry sales rep in the Fellowship Hall, via our North Cross App or by visiting our website at playlearnshare.org/give.

We want to thank you, North Cross, for all your six-word memoirs you submitted. It was a wonderful way to think about the importance of what Mary and Joseph, the Innkeeper and the Shepherds might have been thinking during Advent. Here are some of the ones we received:  Jesus’ birth, a time of peace  Jesus is Savior of the world  Fear not, Jesus is born, God  Unto you a son is given  Ordinary people, extraordinary events, only God  Your name is written in heaven  What just happened for our world?  They rejoiced with exceeding great joy  God blessed me with this birth  Share the good news of great joy  Make room, open heart, welcome Jesus  Inn is full, alternative lodging available  Go Away! There is no room!  Come on in, I welcome you  You can’t have a baby here  I didn’t know it was Jesus

BEST PARENT MEETING EVER Want to know what’s happening between now and August and why it’s happening? Come check out this parent meeting on Sunday, January 7, at 1 p.m. in the youth room. Rumor has it that there might be giveaways!

FROM PASTOR SHAWN. . . The child has been born. The songs have been sung. The gatherings and celebrations may continue, but for many, we are already thinking of next year. I invite you to pause. Without the pressure of creating the right experience for our kids, crafting the ideal memories for our friends and loved ones, or traveling from here to there, we have an opportunity to simply enjoy the miracle that is Christ’s birth. What difference does God becoming one with us and for us make? How are we different when we receive this gift? In what ways are we invited to share the Good News with others? Luke 2 tells us, after the event of Jesus birth, Mary pondered the meaning of all she had experienced.

Ponder. Reflect. Question. As the New Year approaches, may we greet it with a heart full of wonder and delight, having considered how incredible this miracle is for us. Christ has come and will come again. Hallelujah! Merry Christmas!

WINTER CLASSES ARE HERE! Find out what it means to be happy, learn about church plants or how women everywhere can be fierce by signing up for our Winter Classes, Session 1. Classes begin on Wednesday, January 10. 

happy? what it is and how to find it by Matt Miofsky: How do we find lasting happiness and contentment in our lives? Maybe the answer isn't in our own lives at all. In happy? author and pastor Matt Miofsky connects our deep desires with basic theology and unexpected biblical texts to redefine happiness and suggest a way forward in Christ. 4 weeks. Misfit Mission by Scott Chrostek: Chrostek shares inspiring stories from all sorts of people, poignant tales from his ministry as a church planter and campus pastor of The Church of the Resurrection Downtown. He illustrates how people can uncover their innate passion for knowing and serving Christ and how a church can become an integral part of the community. 6 weeks. Of Mess and Moxie by Jen Hatmaker: Hatmaker offers another round of hilarious tales, frank honesty and hope for the woman who has forgotten her moxie. Whether discussing the grapple with change or the time she drove to the wrong city for a fourth-grade field trip, Jen parlays her own triumphs and tragedies into a sigh of relief for all normal, fierce women everywhere who, like her, sometimes hide in the car eating crackers, but also want to live undaunted “in the moment” no matter what the moments hold. 6 weeks.

HALF TRUTHS BOOK STUDY Do you have some free time during the day? Sign up for Half Truths by Adam Hamilton. Starting Thursday, January 11, this six-week study begins at 10 a.m. True or False:  Everything happens for a reason  God helps those who help themselves  God won’t give you more than you can handle  God said it, I believe it, that settles it  Love the sinner, hate the sin All true? No so fast. We’ve heard these phrases all of our lives, but in Adam Hamilton’s new book, you will learn that although they capture some element of truth, when compared to the wisdom found in Scripture, they’re really just popular sayings. Sign up at playlearnshare.org/studies, via the app by selecting “FORMS” or call the office at 816.452.2939.
