UPCOMING GAMES

AROUND THE GSC Two teams remain unbeaten as we get into the full swing of conference play: North Alabama and Lee. Both the Lions and the Lady Flames are 3-0. These two teams are tied for the top scoring defense in the league, allowing just 55.4 points per game this season. North Alabama was picked 11th in the league in the preseason poll, but has exceeded expectations and is 9-0 on the season. A large part of the Lions’ success can be attributed to Ivy Wallen. Wallen has been named the GSC’s Freshman of the Week four times this season and the GSC’s Player of the Week once. At 21.7 points per game, Wallen is seventh in the country in scoring. She is the only freshman in the top 50 in Division II. The two weeks that Wallen was named the freshman of the week, the honor went to Lee, as two different Lady Flames received the honor: Taylor Boggess and Abby Bertram. Lee is currently on a seven game winning streak. Shorter’s Taylor Adams continues to lead the country in scoring, averaging 22.8 points per game. After dropping their first five games of the year, the Hawks have won three of their last four games.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK and FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK Ivy Wallen, North Alabama Wallen has now been named the GSC Freshman of the Week four times, but this is her first time claiming player of the week honors. Wallen has led the Lions to wins in their first nine games this season. UNA is the only undefeated team in the league and is 3-0 in conference play, picking up two GSC wins this week. Wallen averaged 25.5 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 3.0 assists per game. On the year, she is averaging 21.6 points per game, which is second in the conference and seventh in the nation. Wallen has scored at least 20 points in seven of her nine games this season.
