Sequoia Pathway vs Imagine Prep@ Coolidge Football Game Altercation Review: Bylaw 7.9 Sportsmanship Rule
Advised board of Official’s report. Physical and unnecessary rough play Has viewed clips of game provided by Sequoia. No footage of the fight that ensued after the game because the camera had already been turned off by Sequoia.
Imagine @ Coolidge Representatives: Amber McNellus Assistant Principal/ not present at game. Fred Gallegos AD/ Assistant Principal/ not present at game.
Advised Coolidge on several reports about the physical play that was outside the NFHS guidelines.
Read statement from the Coolidge Cheer Coach who was present at the game. Sequoia attacked their quarterback and a fight ensued. Does not know if student removed his helmet or it was pulled off in the altercation. Feels Sequoia agitated the situation by running up the score, playing 1 st string the entire game and continually using onside kicks. Stated student is a good kid and is well liked. Questioned if the behavior was so bad where was the officiating. When it was stated that the bench cleared, it was only one Coolidge student since they only had 9 players at the game. Head Coach was ejected because of him questioning ref calls. (4th quarter) Questioned what the school feels the punishment should be? Corrective Action - suspended from 2 games, may do three more. Imagine Prep @ Coolidge Admin: Apologized for incident. Will to talk with coaches about what they should do if things get out of control. Wants Coolidge teams to be classy. Tabled for further review. Thunderbird Adventist: Appeal to allow Senior to compete at JV level:
Appeal made due to students skill level.
JV level should not include seniors. 7th graders can play on JV but should not include seniors. Another member school may have Senior Playing JV. Randy will address with school
Vote called for: 1st Matt Fritmiller 2nd Valerie Merrill Voted to Deny: 4-0-1 (Rob abstained) 4.4.4.3 Junior Varsity athletes can be in grades 7th – 11th only. Upheld Orme School arbitration hearing review
Student athlete ruled eligible by arbitrator based on contractual law. CAA Membership Constitution 4.4.7.1 does not state Post-grad students are not eligible. Student is eligible for 2015-2016 season.
Proposed change of wording to membership constitution. Board discussed wording of 4.4.7.1 New wording to read: 4.4.7.1 Once a student has met the State of Arizona or any other state requirement for High School graduation and has been issued a High School Diploma or equivalent diploma, they will lose eligibility to compete in the CAA. Even if they still meet age requirement. Voted to change 1st Paul 2nd Rob (5-0) Change in wording of 4.4.7.1 passed. Winter Sports – Late Cancellation of Team Several Schools have canceled season after start date of season for various reasons. Should the minimum number of games be changed due to scheduling issues? Make the decision based on conference and number of schools in that conference to make them eligible for post play. IE Tucson schools could play fewer games. How to handle fines of late cancelation?
According to the constitution. If schools wish they can appealed to competition committee. Make penalties harsher to prevent teams from signing up before they are sure they have a team? Will enforce fines.
Imagine Prep @ Superstition – Principal – Concerns – Letter School enrollment collection process review
Numbers at many schools fluctuate. Stated example from various schools Numbers have to drive the classification Ask for enrollment numbers at the beginning of each sport. May be hard to get notarized Proposed plan to be submitted to board at next meeting by Executive Director
