MATT BLASHAW

The Orange County, California, native began his building career at a young age in his dad’s lumber yard, and worked on everything from plumbing to electrical. Shortly after graduation, Matt got his contractor’s license and began working as a self-employed general contractor, specializing in remodeling homes.

He has hosted several series for the DIY Network and HGTV, including Project Xtreme, Money Hunters, Blog Cabin and Professional Grade, as well as specials such as Cool Tool Builders Show and Worst Kitchen In America.

Currently, Matt hosts the hit DIY Network series Yard Crashers, HGTV’s Vacation House for Free and recently was the furniture carpenter for the winner of Ellen’s Design Challenge.

THE DIEDRICKSEN BROTHERS

Derek “Deek” Diedricksen of Relaxshacks.com, author of the bestselling carpentry book Microshelters and host of HGTV’s Tiny House Builders, has been a tiny house builder and enthusiast since 1987 when he built his first non-fort cabin. He has since hosted/designed for HGTV, The DIY Network, The History Channel, Make TV, and has had his work featured in The New York Times, Boston Globe, China Times, UK Daily News, Treehugger.com, Design Sponge, and more. Deek, along with his brother Dustin, has taught hands-on building workshops since 2010, ranging from Fargo to Sydney. The duo runs the YouTube design channel Relaxshacks.com and professionally builds tiny houses, tree houses and backyard offices for clients. Derek is also the author of “Humble Homes, Simple Shacks.” The Diedricksen Brothers specialty is constructing and designing with salvaged and repurposed materials – often in creative, colorful, and whimsical ways. Come see them in person on the Fresh Ideas Home Stage for more tips, tricks, and darn good advice!

All active and retired fire, police and military personnel will get FREE admission with valid ID on Hero Day, Friday, March 17. Theme day is on Friday only. Admission is $5 on Saturday and Sunday.
