Direct Loan Request 2016-2017 Award Year Post Professional When deciding if borrowing student loans is the right choice for you, be mindful that loans are funds you have to pay back with interest. Loan origination fees are deducted on all Direct Unsubsidized and Graduate PLUS loans. The loan fee is a percentage of the loan amount and is proportionately deducted from each loan disbursement. The percentage varies depending on when the loan is first disbursed. See https://studentaid.ed.gov for more information. You must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours to receive Federal Student Loans (FSL). You are responsible for paying the interest that accrues on Direct Unsubsidized and Graduate PLUS loans during in-school, grace and deferment periods. You have a six-month grace period after you leave school, after which the repayment of your FSL(s) begins. Loans are disbursed to the university at the beginning of every semester. Per U.S. Department of Education regulation, the university has 14 days from disbursement to send any excess funds (living expense check) to the student. Contact the Finance Office ([email protected]) regarding any questions about living expense checks. Your eligibility may change if you receive additional aid not initially reported to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. If this occurs, the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office may need to cancel your loan, reduce future disbursements, reallocate funds, and/or require you to pay back loan amounts already delivered to you. The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office will send your loan information to the U.S. Department of Education. This information is then included in the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and is accessible to you and authorized agencies, lenders, services and institutions. You can view your complete loan history in the National Student Loan Data System at www.nslds.ed.gov.
