Colorado School of Mines Maintains Lead in the Final Fall Division II Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings CLEVELAND – After the completion of seven fall NCAA Championships, Colorado School of Mines remains atop the standings. The Orediggers finished second in men’s cross country, fifth in women’s soccer, eighth in women’s cross country, and 17th in men’s soccer and women’s volleyball for a total of 333.50 points. Grand Valley State (MI) is in second with 280.00 total points after winning the women’s cross country title, claiming a third place finish in women’s soccer, finishing seventh overall in the men’s championship race and a 33rd place finish in women’s volleyball. Tampa jumped from eighth to third with 253.00 points after finishing second in women’s volleyball, ninth in women’s soccer, 17th in men’s soccer and placing 25th in women’s cross country. Rounding out the top five is West Texas A&M, with 247.00 points. The Buffs finished third in football, fifth in women’s volleyball, 11th in women’s cross country and 33rd in women’s soccer; and Shippensburg (PA), with 237.00 points, who finished third in women’s field hockey, seventh in women’s cross country, ninth in football, and 33 rd in women’s volleyball and men’s cross country. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference placed two institutions in the top five, Colorado School of Mines (1 st) and Adams State (CO) (6th) and Shippensburg (PA) (5th) and West Chester (PA) (10th), respectively. The fall NCAA championships have been completed with the following institutions capturing titles: women’s soccer – West Florida; men’s soccer – Lynn (FL); women’s cross country – Grand Valley State (MI); men’s cross country – Adams State (CO); women’s field hockey – West Chester (PA); football – Valdosta State (GA); and women’s volleyball – Concordia St. Paul. The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 14 sports -- seven women’s and seven men’s. The first Division II winter standings will be released Thursday, March 14.
