To present the updated recommended alternative solutions for the design of Northdale’s neighbourhood streets, and the preferred design treatments. Some of the preferred design treatments have been modified based on responses received from agencies, stakeholders and the public since the last Public Information Centre held on May 11, 2016. 2

Summary of What We Heard at PIC #2 STREETSCAPE
Green Street
• Preferred alternative would work if there were sharrows. • A multi‐use trail is important to improve walking in the neighbourhood. • Don’t have medians; it’s a green space people cannot use. Residential • Have sharrows. • Should be one‐way as it allows for more green space. Mixed‐Use • Door zones should have hatch marks. • Albert Street has too much traffic for the preferred alternative. Woonerf • Most people liked the preferred alternative. PARKING • Street design should discourage residents from using on‐ street parking as a permanent solution.

TRAFFIC/TRANSPORTATION • Safety should be considered when designing the streets. • Little support for the one‐way options. • Need intervention at University Avenue and Lester Street. • Traffic lanes should be narrowed to discourage speeding.
ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION • Consider segregated bike lanes. • Increase cycling facilities. • Have bike lanes on Hickory Street. • Have cycle tracks on Albert Street and Hazel Street. • Streets with transit warrant protection of cycling infrastructure, not just paint (Hazel Street and Hickory Street). • Consider more pedestrian through connections. • Have well‐marked pedestrian crossings. MISCELLANEOUS • Concerned about the impacts on storm and sanitary sewer, and water mains. • Have narrower streets and more green space to help stormwater infiltrate. • Minimize light pollution AESTHETICS • Consider more risky streetscape components/street reallocation. • Bury hydro on Hickory Street. • Need more public greenspace. • How would burying hydro affect tree roots and types of trees planted?

Waterloo Collegiate Institute (WCI)/Waterloo Region District School Board • Hickory Street (Green Street ): • Two‐way shared auto/bike lanes with intermittent unmarked parking on both sides. Include a multi‐use trail. • One‐way option on Hickory Street won’t have an impact on students. • WCI priority is an active transportation corridor for the future ION stop west of Phillip Street to the school. • Hazel Street (Mixed‐Use Street): • Close part of Hazel Street between Columbia Street and Hickory Street so it is not a through street. Could act as a transit hub with turnaround points and a pedestrian zone in the middle. Transit and school buses would need access. Waterloo Fire Rescue • Street width must accommodate outriggers of the aerial ladder truck. • Must be able to access the streets from all directions. • All hard surfaces must be designed to accommodate firetruck requirements. Grand River Transit • Supports Hazel Street, from Hickory Street to Columbia Avenue, as transit only. • Need drop off/pick up points within this area. • One‐way street on Hickory Street, between Hazel Street and King Street would change the bus route from west bound to east bound.
