Events & Education Calendar 2015 In line with our mission, the Autism Society of Minnesota’s events and educational programming are designed to enhance the lives of individuals touched with ASD, along with their families, educators, caregivers and employers. AuSM Social Skills Classes Individuals who participate in AuSM’s Social Skills programs thrive in both traditional classroom settings as well as in interest-driven areas such as Zoo Skills at Como Zoo; confidence-boosting Improv Skills at ComedySports; and employment-focused Job Skills. AuSM Skillshops AuSM Skillshops are a skill-building series of workshops for people who care for individuals on the autism spectrum. Classes are designed with a “hands-on” approach, encouraging participation, discussion and problem-solving. New this season: AuSM Skillshops on location at Lionsgate Academy, St. David’s Center, Fraser and Merrick, Inc. See AuSM website for details. AuSM Camp AuSM Summer Camps are staffed with experienced directors, medical staff, therapists and counselors who understand the need for structure, visual schedules, environmental supports, social stories and individualized communication systems. Campers ages 6-21 can enjoy a summer experience in a safe, fun-filled environment. AuSM Golf Classic The AuSM Golf Classic gives golfers a chance to make a difference in the lives of those with autism, while golfing on the amazing Troy Burne golf course in Hudson, Wisconsin. AuSM Life with Autism Series (Formerly AuSM Discovery Series) Parents, family members, relatives and caregivers come away with practical strategies and suggestions to help guide their journey through the age-specific stages of life. Mental Health Services AuSM Mental Health Services therapists have decades of experience working with individuals with ASD. Our licensed psychologists and therapists offer diagnostic, functional or behavioral assessments for all ages; individual therapy; family therapy; behavior consultation; marriage and couples therapy; and training for organizations and service providers. AuSM also offers a variety of support and therapy groups to fit individual, family and caregiver needs. Minnesota Autism Conference Held annually during Autism Awareness Month, the Minnesota Autism Conference is open to the public and is especially beneficial for teachers, educators, doctors, clinicians, psychologists, as well as parents and families of individuals on the autism spectrum, including adults with ASD. 2015 marks the 20th Anniversary of this great event. Navigating Autism Held at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Navigating Autism allows families the opportunity to familiarize themselves with airport and travel procedures. These events are co-organized by the Minneapolis Airport Commission, AuSM and Fraser. Steps of Hope Fundraising Walk Steps of Hope is AuSM’s annual fundraising walk to raise community awareness of autism in Minnesota. Walkers participate as teams and individuals to raise money for autism programming and education. Support Groups (free of charge) AuSM provides a variety of support groups to meet the needs of parents, children, family members, individuals, couples and more. AuSM Support Groups are held at the AuSM office in St. Paul. Workshops AuSM workshops meet the professional development needs of busy ASD specialists, educators and parents by presenting cuttingedge research, technology and therapies in one- and two-day formats.
