Doctors’ Notes

At Lawton High School, second semester has begun. Lost are “the visions of sugar plums dancing in our heads, in hope that Saint Nicholas will bring us our hearts’ desires during the celebration of Christmas.” Presently, we are preparing for the Mr. LHS pageant. The LHS pageant was created as a campus fundraiser for the organizations as well as for the campus. Each organization chooses a male student as a representative for the pageant. Then, the students raise money in support of the organization’s representative for the pageant. Next, we have planned NMSI (National Math and Science Institute) Saturday training sessions. Our Advanced Placement (AP) students are still trying to earn $100 for each AP exam that they pass as well as college credit through AP exams. Also, we are preparing to use the automated district call system for attendance that will begin on Feb. 8, 2017. Parents, please update your contact information in the LHS front office. If your children are absent from school, you will receive notification from an automated call system at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. Further, cupid is very busy at LHS. The LHS, red color is perfect for demonstrating love of our fellow man. It follows that on Valentine’s Day, the choir will deliver singing valentines. Make your orders with the LHS choir director, Ms. Cullison. Further, do not forget that the JROTC is selling Valentine gifts for $10. Moreover, this month is filled with Black History Celebrations. (We have posted a complete Lawton-Ft. Sill, Black History Calendar in the front office.) In February 1926, Carter G. Woodson launched the celebration of “Negro History Week”, it was the precursor of Black History Month. As an annual tradition, LHS has scheduled a Black History assembly on Feb. 24, 2017. Also, on Feb. 18, 2017, the LHS African-American, Quiz Bowl Team will compete against both the EHS and MHS teams at Cameron University. The LHS team is being coached by Zack Gipson, Michael Forrest, and Allee Passmore. Hopefully, this will become an annual event on the Black History Calendar. In closing, LHS will be giving the juniors the ACT again this year. Parents, ensure that your students are spending a little extra time studying for this ACT because it is an entrance exam for colleges and universities in the United States. Additionally, this ACT exam that will be administered at LHS will be free or have not cost for the students. Dr. Regina DeLoach
