Does God Keep His Promises? Memory Verse: Deuteronomy 7:9 Bible Passage: God’s Covenant With Abraham – Genesis 12:1-8; 15; 21:1-7; 22:15-19 Missions Emphasis: Kazakhstan What We Learned: In this week’s lesson we discovered that God always keeps His promises. As humans, we make promises that sometimes we cannot keep, but God is different. He never makes a promise He does not keep. If you want to talk about promises (and keeping those promises), remind your child that God keeps every promise He makes because He is the God of truth.
At-Home: One of your most important callings, and possibly your most difficult role in life, is being a parent. Consider your various roles (spouse, employee, employer, friend, leader, etc.). You need the promises of God in every arena of life. Meditate on the following promises: We are free in Christ (John 8:36); there is no condemnation in Christ. (Romans 8:1); the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness (Romans 8:26); He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7); God gives strength and help (Isaiah 40:29); God will be with us and not leave (Hebrews 13:5). Reflect on the promises of God that encourage you most in your role as a parent. Engage in family discussion using the following prompts to see what your child learned and how it applies to his life. 1. Discuss whether or not you have ever made a promise that you could not keep. 2. Share a time when you tried diligently to keep a promise but broke it. (Note: This discussion may be difficult, but it will be a good exercise in communication between you and your child. Conversations such as this provide an excellent opportunity to talk about grace and forgiveness. In spite of the fact that we don’t deserve it, God loves us unconditionally.) 3. Name a few promises God has made to you. Have confidence that the promises God makes, He will keep.
