Don Thompson May 14, 1934 – December 9, 2015
Don Thompson, 81, lifelong Ogallala resident, died Wednesday, December 9, 2015, in his home. Don was born May 14, 1934, in Arthur County, Nebaska., the son of Herbert and Virginia (Hawkins) Thompson. He attended Arthur Public School and then graduated from Ogallala High School in 1953. Don worked various jobs in the area. In 1955 Don was united in marriage to Dorothy VanVelson at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ogallala. The couple resided and farmed south of Ogallala and Don was employed at Wheelers in Ogallala. In 1971 he was transferred to the Wheelers Store in McCook. In 1974 they returned to Ogallala and Don was employed by Charlie Robacker Farms. Don purchased a semi-truck and began a long career of hauling grain. He retired in 2008. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. His interests included watching the Nebraska Huskers and the Denver Broncos. Preceding him in death were his parents and son Douglas. Survivors include his wife Dorothy Thompson of Ogallala and his son Dave (Emily) Thompson of Paxton; two brothers: Jack (Mary Ann) Thompson of Rio Dell, Cal. and Terry (Mute) Thompson of Scott City, CA; one sister Phyllis (Jerry) Sullaway of Oregon. Also four grandchildren: Josh (Jill) Thompson and Sara (Tom) Spratt, all of North Platte and Tylar Thompson and Laura Moe, both of Ogallala; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, December 10, from 10 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Draucker Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be Friday, December 11, at 10 a.m. in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. John Stubenrouch officiating. The Service will be streamed from drauckerfuneralhome.com, for those unable to attend. Interment is in the Ogallala Cemetery.
