Dreamcast CMOS Battery Replacement
INTRODUCTION When a Dreamcast ask for time and date every time you power on your system, your CMOS battery is dead. This guide shows how to replace the CMOS battery.
TOOLS:
PARTS:
Phillips #2 Screwdriver (1)
matching battery holder (1)
Soldering Workstation (1)
wire, 22 to 26 gauge (1)
Safety Glasses (1)
Electric tape or electric shrink wrap (1)
Digital Multimeter (1)
double-sided foam mounting tape (1) CR 2016 3V Lithium Batteries (1)

Step 1 — Top Cover
Locate and remove all four black 12mm Phillips #02 screws from the underside of the console.
The fourth screw is hidden under the expansion bay if it has not already been removed.

Be careful that the internal components do not topple out.

Flip the console topside up.
Remove the top cover of the chassis by gently lifting the upper portion of the console.

Step 3 — Controller Port
Be gentle with the white controller cable as it can be a bit fragile.
Disconnect the white controller cable by gently pulling the the cable while wiggling it back and forth until it detaches from the controller board.
Step 4
Remove the four 14mm Philips #02 located on the controller board.

Disconnect the white fan header from the controller port
Step 6
Remove the controller board by lifting it up from the controller port.

Step 7 — CMOS Battery
De-solder the old CMOS battery from the controller board.
Note where the positive and negative terminals went.
Solder the new battery holder to some wire
solder those wires to corresponding points on the controller board. Take note where the Positive and negative terminals went

Reinsert the controller board.
attach the battery holder inside with some self adhesive, such as double sided foam tape
insert the battery into the battery holder
reverse the disassembly directions to reassemble your Dreamcast.
Once your Dreamcast is reassembled, go ahead and connect the Dreamcast to you TV or monitor and power, and reset the clock.
