DRESS AND GROOMING The district’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption, and minimize safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following: Shirts     

Shirts that fall below the wrist when the arms are placed at the side must be tucked. Midriffs must be covered at all times. Shirts must be buttoned within two buttons of the neck. Neck lines should be no lower than the width of one’s hand closed with fingers touching when the thumb is placed at the top of the breast bone. Spaghetti straps are not allowed. All straps must be a minimum of “three finger width.”

Pants/Skirts/Shorts/Dresses  Dresses, skirts and shorts must come to the student’s fingertips when arms are relaxed.  When wearing tights or leggings the top must come the student’s fingertips when arms are relaxed.  Pants and shorts must be worn at the waist and may not be torn or ripped inappropriately. Fashionable “rubs” or “frays” will be allowed at the discretion of the principal. Shoes  Students must wear shoes.  House shoes, steel taps, shoes with wheels and cleats will not be allowed. Student’s hair must be neat, clean and well groomed. Hair may not cover the student’s eyes. Boys hair may not be below the ear or collar. Boys will not be allowed to wear ponytails, rattail or mohawks. Hair rollers and long handled combs will not be allowed.



Not hats, caps, toboggans, scarves, sunglasses, etc. can be worn during the school day. They may be kept in lockers until after school. Any type of clothing that would tend to cause a distraction will not be allowed. Examples could include clothing displaying alcohol, tobacco, drugs, racial slogans, gestures, wording in bad taste, sagging pants, visible undergarments, etc. Girls are allowed to wear earrings/posts in their ears only. Boys are not allowed to wear earrings/posts. Feathers or colored weaves are not permitted in hair.

If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school. If not corrected, the student will be assigned to in-school suspension for the remainder of the day, until the problem is corrected, or until a parent or designee brings an acceptable change of clothing to the school. Repeated offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
