Game #17 Battle at Bethpage Sunday, May 7, 2017 1 p.m. - Bethpage High School - Bethpage, N.Y. #20 Boston University (12-4, 5-3 PL) vs. #6 Duke (11-4, 3-1 ACC) ONE MORE FOR THE SENIORS • The No. 20 Boston University men’s lacrosse team will travel to Bethpage, N.Y., on Long Island to face No. 6 Duke in the Battle at Bethpage on Sunday afternoon in what is likely the Terriers’ 2017 finale. • Game time is set for 1 p.m. TRYING TO GO OUT ON TOP • With the Terriers’ chances for an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament slim at best, Sunday’s tilt with Duke is likely the final game for the Terriers’ 17-member senior class. • If BU wins Sunday, it will be the first time in program history that the Terriers will have defeated a top-10 team. • BU and its 17 seniors enter Sunday’s contest with a record of 28-31 in four years. LAST TIME AGAINST DUKE • The Terriers hosted Duke in their 2016 finale at Nickerson Field and fell to the Blue Devils, 15-8. • Ryan Hilburn collected a career-high four assists and also found the back of the net to complete a five-point day. • James Burr tallied four points (3g, 1a) while Cal Dearth notched three goals and Jack Wilson contributed a goal and an assist. • Greg Wozniak gathered three ground balls and forced two turnovers while Craig Zebrowski had two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. • Christian Carson-Banister made 15 saves. SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS • Duke suffered a 7-6 setback to No. 4 Notre Dame last Friday in the ACC semifinals. • A win over BU on Sunday will all but ensure the Blue Devils a spot in the NCAA Tournament and perhaps even a home game depending on other results this weekend. • Justin Guterding leads the Blue Devils with 75 points thanks to 41 goals and a teambest 34 assists. • Jack Bruckner is the team’s top goal scorer with 43 markers. • Kyle Rowe has won 56.9 percent of his faceoffs this season (170-of-299) and has won 92 ground balls. • Danny Fowler has started all 15 games at goalkeeper, posting an 8.47 goals-against average and a .529 save percentage. CLOSE ONE IN THE PL SEMIFINALS • The Terriers’ first-ever Patriot League postseason run came to an early end on April 28 when the Terriers were defeated by then-No. 12/14 Army West Point, 10-7, in Baltimore, Maryland. • Juniors Jack Wilson (2g, 1a) and Hayden Ruiz (1g, 2a) each led BU with three points. • Senior Cal Dearth (1g, 1a) tallied two points and matched his career high with six ground balls. • Sophomore James Burr notched two goals and senior Ryan Johnston also found the back of the net. • Senior Christian Carson-Banister made 10 saves on the evening. • Senior Dominick Calisto caused two turnovers and gathered two ground balls while classmate Cam Pincus had three ground balls and a forced turnover.
POLLEY NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR • Head coach Ryan Polley was honored April 24 as the 2017 Patriot League Coach of the Year. • Polley guided the Terriers to their best-ever record at 11-3 en route to securing a home game in the program’s first Patriot League tournament appearance. • BU boasted a top-15 defense and top-20 offense nationally during the regular season under Polley’s guidance. SIX TERRIERS EARN ALL-LEAGUE HONORS • A record six Terriers earned All-Patriot League honors on April 24, including three first-team selections. • Senior Christian Carson-Banister was unanimously chosen as Goalkeeper of the Year and earned a spot of the first team with classmates Dominick Calisto and Cal Dearth. • Dearth was also a unanimous selection. • Senior Greg Wozniak, junior Jack Wilson and sophomore Brendan Homire garnered second-team honors. THEY CAN HANDLE THINGS THEY’RE SMART • Senior Christian Carson-Banister and junior Jack Wilson were both named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team on April 26. • Carson-Banister boasts a 3.27 grade-point average and will graduate in May with a degree in international relations. • Wilson, a two-time Academic All-PL honoree, owns a 3.42 GPA while majoring in business administration and management. • BU was one of just two schools to place two or more athletes on the Academic AllPatriot League Team.

2017 boston university LACROSSE www.GoTerriers.com BURR BRINGING THE HEAT • Sophomore James Burr has been one of the Terriers’ best players since being inserted into the starting lineup. • Playing at attack over the last five games, Burr has tallied 14 goals and three assists for 17 points. • He secured a career-high five points on April 25 against Lehigh in the Patriot League quarterfinals thanks to four goals and one assists, both of which matched career highs. • Burr finished his first-ever PL tournament with seven points (6g, 1a). • A native of Hamilton, Massachusetts, Burr enters Sunday with 24 goals and seven assists for 31 points. CARSON-BANISTER SAVING THE DAY • Senior Christian Carson-Banister was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year after a sensational final season. • Carson-Banister enters the final week of the regular season third in the NCAA in save percentage (.594) and ninth in the country in goals-against average (8.09). • He also combined with the Terrier defense to keep Lehigh to a mere four goals in a Patriot League quarterfinal win on April 25, the stingiest performance in program history. • In that Lehigh victory, Carson-Banister did not allow a goal for over 43 straight minutes, with Lehigh needing a goal with just 26 seconds remaining in regulation to break that scoreless stretch. THE FORCE IS WITH DEARTH • Senior Cal Dearth is in the midst of a career year for the Terriers. • A unanimous First Team All-Patriot League selection, Dearth has tallied a career-high 54 points thanks to a careerhigh 36 goals in addition to 18 assists. • Dearth has been red hot of late, scoring 13 goals over the last four games. • The Ridgefield, Connecticut native has yet to be held without a goal in 16 games this season.
CAN’T SPELL DOMINATE WITHOUT DOM • Senior Dominick Calisto, certainly earned his First Team All-Patriot League selection. • He gathered two ground balls and caused one turnover on April 25 against Lehigh while holding Matt Raposo (14g, 21a) without a point. • Calisto also kept the unanimous PL Offensive Player of the Year, Pat Spencer of Loyola Maryland, to just one assist in a 12-11 overtime win over the Greyhounds. • Prior to that, Calisto held Harvard’s Morgan Cheek (37g, 30a) to a mere two points on March 21. • He enters Sunday with 34 ground balls and a team-high 25 caused turnovers in addition to his reputation as one of the top cover men in the conference, if not the entire country. LET IT RIDE • BU was great against Army’s clearing game on April 28, holding the Black Knights to just 12-of-17 in clearing. • Overall, the Terriers caused eight of Army’s 12 total turnovers. • BU completed 18 of its 20 clear attempts in that semifinal contest.
