Duffel Bags and Bibles
2016
2016 is South Carolina Baptist’s 17th year of mission support through Duffel Bags and Bibles for Foster Children. South Carolina Woman’s Missionary Union (SC WMU) teams together with South Carolina Foster Parents Association in order to provide duffel bags and Bibles for foster children in our state. You may participate in this project in one of two ways: 1. Purchase duffel bags and Bibles and deliver them to the nearest one of the 41 county Foster Parent contacts across the state (counties and contacts will be posted at a later date). They can also be brought to the state WMU office at the South Carolina Baptist Convention Building (address at bottom of this page). Please use the form at the bottom of this page to report your organization’s participation. 2. Contributions may be sent to SC WMU (address below) to purchase duffel bags and Bibles in the fall after contributions have been collected. Money may be sent May 1, 2016 – December 15, 2016. Over 6,000 children and youth are in the SC foster care system at any one given time in the year. A large duffel bag for youth (around $14), such as the one pictured, or a regular one (around $12) for younger children may be purchased. Bags can be purchased from Wal-Mart, Target, or any store where you find this type of bag. The bag needs to have multiple compartments, handles, and a shoulder strap. The dimensions of the larger bag should be approximately 30” (length) x 14” (width) x 14” (height). The dimensions of the smaller bag should be approximately 21” (length) x 11” (width) x 12½” (height). Bibles purchased for personal delivery should be similar to the ones listed below. Bible for Kids (New International Reader’s Version) ($8.50, Single; $7.99 each in case lots of 10; call Biblica at 1-800-524-1588 or go online at www.biblicadirect.com to order); Extreme Faith Youth Bible (Contemporary English Version) ($4.39, Single; $3.99 each in case lots of 24). This Bible may be ordered from Biblica, or from the American Bible Society by calling 1-888-239-3976 or visiting online at www.bibles.com. When calling, request the case price and ask about other available discounts. Contributions may be sent, with the form below, to SC WMU for bulk purchase of duffel bags and Bibles.
