Duplicating an Item

Duplicating an Item Exam Managers (EMs) have the option to duplicate an already existing item to create an identical, yet entirely independent copy of an item question that will begin to gather its own statistical data.

4.

You have now created an exact copy of this item. (Note the Item ID # has changed.)

5.

You are now in edit mode and can make changes within any tabs (i.e. change the categories, answer choices, adjust weighting, add or remove attachments, etc.).

6.

Once finished, click ‘Save’ to save changes or ‘Approved’.

When to Duplicate an Item: 

Remediation Exams – to analyze how Exam Takers performed during a make-up session.

Collaborative Item Creation – EMs can retain their own copy of an item question to compare how their Exam Takers performed.

Making changes to the answer choices – using the same question but changing one or more answer choices to analyze Exam Taker performance. It is important to note that when you duplicate an item, the ‘Item ID’ will change. This will be a unique item separate from the original and will begin to gather its own statistics when used in exams.

1.

2.

To duplicate an item, hover over ‘Items’, then click ‘Browse Folders’.

Choosing to ‘Approve’ an item means it is ready to be administered in an exam.

In the ‘Browse Items by Folder’ select the folder where your item is saved. The items will be displayed on the right. Then, select the item you wish to duplicate by clicking on the ‘Item ID/Rev’ (Item ID / Revision) hyperlink.

Choosing to ‘Save’ an item means it is a draft and cannot be used for an exam.

If you click ‘Save’ instead of ‘Approved’, the question that was duplicated will be saved as a draft and will need to be approved before you can use it on an exam.

3.

A new window with the item details will appear. Click the ‘Duplicate’ button at the bottom of the screen.

7.

You may use the Bulk Edit Options to make changes to the items that were previously duplicated (i.e. move all the duplicated items to the new folder or approve them all at once).

8.

To bulk edit, navigate to the Item Bank folder structure by clicking on Items, then Browse Folders. Select the desired folder and then select the items you wish to bulk edit by clicking the checkmark next to the Item ID and then click ‘Bulk Edit Options’.

Bulk Edit Options allow you to change category assignments, change the status to approved, and/or move selected items to other folders.
