A SAFER PLACE TO STAY.
Dubbed the “best built hotel in our company” by the Comfort Inn, the chain’s Tifton location is one durable hotel. Faced with an incredibly tight, four month building timeline, and a challenging budget, the hotel is a fantastic example of how Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) can be used to save time and money without sacrificing durability. Thanks to its ICF construction, guests will be kept safe and can enjoy a stay uninterrupted by traffic noise from the nearby interstate. ICFs are also more energy efficient, so the hotel’s owner will save money in energy bills.
AWARDS:
2007 Heavy Commercial 2nd Runner Up, ICF Builder Awards
01. Eliminated additional foundation expenses. Due to weak soil, engineers estimated the foundation would cost an additional $250,000. Thanks to ICFs, builders were able to reduce the structure’s weight by using 5” tie width forms, removing the need for extra foundation expenses. 02. A low-cost solution. The cost to build the hotel was $78 per square foot, similar to stick construction. Thanks to the energy efficiency benefits of concrete, the hotel’s owners will save even more money over the building’s lifecycle. 03. Reduced waste. Waste from 116,000 square feet of ICF walls was minimal. In fact, the waste could fit in a utility trailer. 04. Meeting a tight timeline. Workers began stacking walls on the fourth floor before the first floor foundation was complete. By using Plumwall bracing and specialized ties, workers were able to cast the floors and walls simultaneously.
