Social Media Awareness

Volume 1, Issue 1 December 2012

As a student-athlete at EMU, you are regarded as a high profile individual. With this comes great responsibility. Social media allows the fans, alumni, coaches, news, potential employers, etc. to see a glimpse into your life as a Division 1 Athlete. With good reason!!!! Here in compliance we want to ensure that you stay protected, and represent your team and institution to the best of your ability. Social media is driving many businesses and is a great tool! Just be sure it is used in a positive light. Reminders: •Do NOT publicize “internal” EMU info. This includes, injuries, lineups, academics, etc. •Do NOT use twitter, instagram, facebook, etc. to publicize recruits. This includes congratulations on commitments, and pictures while on visits. •If you do communicate with prospects who are friends, keep it all private. (Direct messages, facebook chats) •Check out Darren Rovell’s “100 Twitter Rules to Live By” (CLICKHERE)

ATTENTION ALL OUT -OF SEASON ATHLETES! During finals week, it is not permissible for you to participate in CARA if your sport is out of season (Rowing/baseball/softball/golf/tennis/ volleyball/soccer/cross country). This restriction is also in place during the week prior to finals week. This CARA ban begins Thursday, December 6th and ends on Wednesday, December 19th! (or until you have finished all of your finals) During this ban, coaches/staff of the sport programs identified cannot require you to participate in weight lifting, film study, conditioning, or any other countable activity, nor can they punish you for not participating in any activities. You can participate in these activities on your own, provided your coaches do not observe the activities. (except for Rowing with safety exception)

From the F.A.R Side December does not only bring changes in weather, but also a time for student-athletes to take final exams, complete projects or papers. As we head into finals, just realize that faculty views this time period as their “championship” time. So here are some tips to handle the upcoming finals. 1.Avoid stress (or stressfull/negative people). 2.Eat healthy and get exercise. 3.Take breaks every hour (reward yourself for 10 minutes) and then get back to studying or writing a paper. 4.Manage your time. 5.Meet with your instructor/professor to clarify exam or paper. 6.Think positive (if you have prepared well you should do well). 7.Be confident. 8. PREPARE!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Reminders •CARA Logs are updated into your ACS account regularly. Please go in and check to make sure these logs are correct! • Your December Athletic Advantage course is now in your portal! Remember to get these done as soon as possible!!!!
