What is Blue Easel?
The Details
Blue Easel is a creative aspect of Compassion that allows artists to be advocates for children. It brings like-minded people together to make a powerful stand against poverty! This exhibition provides a platform for creative people to use their talents to illustrate the emotions, struggles and joys of children who are unable to speak out themselves.
This exhibition is open to artists who believe art can be used to fight poverty and have a passion to use their gifts to help children who are, due to their circumstances, unable to help themselves.

2010 Theme: The Art of Survival Celebrate the life of children and the global push to reduce infant mortality and help children reach their fifth birthday.
C r it e r i a
The number of children struggling to make it past their fifth birthday is nothing short of staggering, but we live in an exciting time. Experts say we could be the first generation capable of seeing poverty eradicated–forever! For example, in 2009 the number of children who died before their fifth birthday dropped under 10 million per year for the first time on record. It now stands at 8.8 million.

A BO U T CO M PASSION Compassion is an international Christian child development and advocacy organisation working with over a million children in more than 25 developing nations. Founded by the Rev Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began by providing food, shelter, education, healthcare and Christian training to Korean War orphans. Today, Compassion partners with more than 6000 churches across the developing world to release children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty with programs from the womb to the workforce. Every year, 33 million children are born into poverty around the world. Another 2.3 million children are living with HIV and almost a quarter of the world’s children aren’t receiving an education. Even in Australia, there are more than 300,000 reported cases of suspected child abuse or neglect each year. Compassion exists for each and every one of these children, with all their hopes, dreams and potential, wherever in the world they are born. We are standing up and speaking out for the world’s children and mobilising Australians from next door to Parliament House to join us. So far, we have touched the lives of more than two million children—one by one. For addition information please contact: Elisha Smallcombe, Liz Stanfield or Berlinda Fortin on 1300 244 453 or email
