EASTERN MICHIGAN WOMEN’S SOCCER Sept. 19, 2007 • 7 p.m. • Michigan State (3-2-0) • East Lansing, Mich. Sept. 23, 2007 • 1 p.m. • IUPUI (0-4-0) • Scicluna Field

ROAD TRIP WRAPPING UP: After spending the last week on the road to Fort Wayne, Ind. and then a weekend trip out west to California, the Eagles return to the state of Michigan for the week. The Green and White travel to East Lansing Wednesday, Sept. 19 to take on Big Ten foe Michigan State. EMU will finally return home for the first time since Sept. 4 to host IUPUI Saturday, Sept. 23. SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS: The Spartans are 3-2-0 on the season, after picking up a 3-0 win against Detroit. Michigan State averages 1.37 goals a game and is led by sophomore Lauren Hill, who has scored three goals and netted an assist. IUPUI is 0-4-0 on the season and has yet to score a goal in the four games. The Jaguars face Indiana State and Youngstown State this week before heading to Ypsilanti. FAMILIAR FACE: When the Eagles and Spartans square off on Wednesday, senior Lindsay Hill will see a familiar face, as her sister Lauren plays for Michigan State. The two sisters met last year when the Eagles and Spartans battled to a 1-1 tie at Scicluna Field. The duo played together in high school while at Northville. WIN, LOSE OR DRAW: The Eagles picked up one of each this past week, after playing three road games. The week started off well for EMU, as they rolled past IPFW, 3-1. After allowing the first goal of the game to the Mastadons, the Eagles scored three unanswered goals by Katie Lozar, Maggie Christensen and Paige Sheridan. The Eagles headed out to California for the weekend, starting off at UC Riverside. The Green and White were not able to find the net, as they lost 2-1. Eastern finished the week recording a 2OT 0-0 tie. Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Manville recorded her second career shutout. FIRST WIN: The Eagles chalked up their first win of the season with a 4-0 decision against Detroit, Sept. 4. After being held scoreless in the first half, the Green and White erupted with four goals in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Maggie Manville notched her first career shutout, making five saves. SPREADING THE POINTS AROUND: Against the Titans of Detroit, eight different players recorded points. Four different players scored goals, with another four players notching assists. Ashley Rodrigues, Sara Schiffbauer, Ashley Upton and Samantha Beard all found the back of the net, while Katie Lozar, Renee

Farrell, Jessica Lathrop and Tessa Acker each received a point for the set-up. 13TH SEASON BEGINS: The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team started the season off with a loss to the Panthers of Eastern Illinois University. The Eagles went into halftime with a 1-0 advantage, but EIU came back with three second half goals. Sophomore Maggie Christensen scored the Eagles’ lone goal off an assist from senior Sara Schiffbauer. The Eagles are now 8-4-1 in season openers. NEW FACES ON THE FIELD: Four freshmen made their collegiate debuts against Eastern Illinois. Goalkeeper Maggie Manville was the only freshman to earn a start, making five saves and allowing three goals. Tessa Acker, Paige Sheridan and Stephanie Janssens were the other true freshmen to earn playing time against the Panthers. A LOOK AT THE EAGLES: The Eagles return 19 letterwinners and 10 starters from last year’s team that finished 11th in the 2006 MAC regular season with an 6-10-2 record. The Eagles return the top two goal scorers from last year to the forward position. Sophomores Deana Kinter (five goals and two assists) and Maggie Christensen (four goals and three assists) both return to build on solid debut seasons. Senior Sara Schiffbauer leads the way at midfield for EMU. Schiffbauer returned to the midfield in the 2006 season, after playing the previous season in goal. A starter in 15 games, she recorded one goal and two assists on the season. Despite losing two-year starter Lauren Clyne, the defensive backfield that allowed only 20 goals remains in tact. Leading the way for the Eagles defensively will be senior Jill Kehler. She started all 18 games last season, notching three assists on the year. Senior Lindsay Hill returns to the lineup, after a foot injury ended her season early a year ago. Junior Katie Zundel returns after notching two goals and three assists last year while starting every game. The Eagles lost returning starting goalkeeper Monique Budani to an injury before the season even begins. With the loss of Budani, the goalkeeping position is up for grabs. Sophomore Missy Frederick appeared in two games in relief last year, giving her some game experience. Freshman Maggie Manville looks to come in and compete for playing time right away. WOMEN’S SOCCER PICKED TO FINISH IN EIGHTH PLACE TIE: The Eastern Michigan University women’s soccer team was picked to finish in a tie for eighth place by the Mid-American Conference head coaches. The annual preseason poll was released Monday, Aug. 13. Ball State was picked to win both the regular season title and the conference tournament, after winning the regular season crown last year. Bowling Green was selected to finish second, followed by fellow East Division members Ohio, Miami and Kent State. Northern Illinois, a 2006 tournament finalist, was picked to finish sixth, followed by Central Michigan. The Eagles finished in a tie for eighth place with 2006 tournament champion Toledo. Buffalo, Akron and Western Michigan round out the poll. 2007 MAC Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll 1. Ball State 2. Bowling Green 3. Ohio 4. Miami 5. Kent State 6. Northern Illinois 7.
