Environmentally Conscious Organization of Teens Description What is the ECO Teen Program? ECO Teens are high school students who are interested in doing more to protect the environment they live in. Teens become part of an ongoing program with the City of Plano’s Sustainability & Environmental Services Department. ECO Teens learn about current environmental issues; work as a team during Learn 2 Live Green and other events; and complete environmentally important service-based community projects. ECO Teens develop a wide-range of skills, including: communication, leadership and environmental stewardship practices, through hands-on involvement with the Live Green in Plano programs and while working with the Environmental Education Coordinators, to improve their own lives and their communities.

What does an ECO Teen do? Gets involved and becomes a leader on issues of sustainable living, inspiring others to use resources wisely to make positive lifestyle adjustments. Actively participates in Live Green in Plano special events, including Learn 2 Live Green. Actively participates in workshops and field trips related to gardening, composting, energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, recycling, sustainability, personal development, project management, and customer relations. Designs and implements an environmentally important service-based based community project, based on identified needs. Make presentations to earn support for your community project and on the final results of the project. Work closely with EECO educators to make presentations, work in the garden, audit trash and recycling routes, mark storm drains and more.

2. Sign the Student Signature Page (attached). 3. Have your parent or guardian complete and sign the Parent/ Guardian Agreement (attached). 4. Give the Student Recommendation Form to someone at your school who knows you well - a teacher, coach, guidance counselor or administrator. (Recommendation may be submitted separately or returned to you in a sealed envelope with adult’s signature across the back.) All application materials are due by 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2012. I want to apply, who gets chosen? Unfortunately, space and resources do not allow us to choose everyone who applies. We will select interns who: Demonstrate an ability to get along with others Demonstrate a strong desire to learn and have an interest in the environment, community service and leadership Will commit to 100 percent attendance and completion of all intern responsibilities

If I am chosen, what is the schedule? January: Applications due and ECO Teens accepted to the program! February- April: Interns meet once a week for two hours. You will be notified of the exact day and time once you become an intern. Meetings will vary and consist of training, planning and working sessions, dependent upon current focus. Development of the personal project will begin! March: Spring Break - Weeklong ECO Teen Camp. Interns will prepare for Learn 2 Live Green (L2LG), participate in community service projects, field trips, team building and develop deeper understandings of sustainability topics and issues. April: Interns volunteer as Green Ambassadors and will be responsible for a Teen DIY demonstration for L2LG on April 14, 2012. May: Finish you personal projects! June and July: During the summer, ECO Teens will have weekly opportunities to work with different EECO education coordinators, participate in field trips, work on community service projects and learn more about environmental topics. August-December: Meetings will be held once a month on Friday evenings to touch base, give updates and trouble shoot. September: ECO Teens can attend the Environmental Community Awards and share the results of their projects.
