ECONOMIC EFFICIENCY IN PLANNING AND OPERATING WATER SUPPLY AND WASTEWATER DISPOSAL SYSTEMS From the contents The comprehensive course is based on nearly 30 years of experience in applying the German standards, on the customized “User’s Manual for project appraisal” worked out by an expert group from six countries and its application in DWA’s international training activities in this field since 2010. The participants get familiar with economic efficiency in designing water utilities and their components, in rationalizing operation and maintenance and in rehabilitating systems. Starting with the systematic of infrastructure project appraisal methods in practical use and their pros and cons, the main focus is on dynamic cost comparison calculation. By applying this tool least cost solutions can be selected which are most suitable in water supply and wastewater disposal whenever mandatory targets have to be met. All methodological and empirical aspects are dealt with in depth by a standardized step by step procedure: Cost findings, cost conversion routines, calculation parameters, methods for comparing present values, annual cost and dynamic prime costs, sensitivity analyses, interpretation of results, project appraisal in practice using real world examples, exercises in order to get used to the fundamental routines and finally an individual workout of a project appraisal as self-control of success.
