Eight Weeks of Summer Fun! We have converted a free to use pattern from Moda Bakeshop into our 8 weeks of fun! We are using 30’s fabrics and happy colors to make our samples!
Ingredients:
1 fat quarter bundle (at least 32 fat quarters) -OR- 52 layer cake squares {1 layer cake plus 5 fat quarters cut into 10 additional layer cake squares} + 12 fat eighths -OR- 5 charm packs + 12 fat eighths 4¼ yards background + whipped cream fabric 44 layer cake squares for border (optional) ¾ yard binding fabric (370") | 5/8 yard binding fabric if you omit the borders (306") 9 yards backing fabric | 51/8 yards backing fabric if you omit the borders
Each week we will attach to our website the pattern for the row we are working on! The first week will have the border fabric attached! Each week our 8 weeks of fun will include 7 - Fat Eighths (10" by 1/2 WOF) and 2 -1/4th (10" by WOF) - That is 1.5 yards each week that will arrive to you in the mail! We are planning on using 65 different fabrics! To make the quilt with the border you will need to cut 10" off 42 of the Fat Eighths that you receive. Dates to know! May 27-June 1 Taking registration for the 8 weeks of fun! Only those that sign up this week will be part of the block of the month! Each week your credit card will be charged and your kit shipped! Week One Block Row # 1 - Cherry Spools & Lady Fingers Row Make 5 Blocks 1 row, measuring 64" x 11"
For EACH Cherry Spool block, you will need: Fabric 1/Spool: 2 - 2½" squares and 2 - 2" x 8" strips Fabric 2/Leaves: 6 - 2½" squares Fabric 3/Cherries: 4 - 2" squares Fabric 4/Background/Lady Fingers: 8 - 2½" squares, 2 - 2" x 8" strips, 9 - 2" squares, and 6 - 2⅜" x 11" strips (this is for sashing) Each week our 8 weeks of fun will include 7 - Fat Eighths (10" by 1/2 WOF) and 2 -1/4th (10" by WOF) - That is 1.5 yards each week that will arrive to you in the mail! Eight Weeks of Summer Fun! Row #1 How To:
Draw a line on the wrong side of each 2½" background square. Pair each 2½" background square with spool squares and leaf squares (a total of 8 pairs of background fabric + print), right sides together. Lining up the edge of your foot with the pencil line, sew a scant ¼" seam on each side of the line. Cut on the pencil line and press to the darker fabric. Square up each HST to 2". Make 12 sets of background/leaves HSTs and 4 sets of background/spool HSTs per block. Lay out your block pieces for the center as shown.

Eight Weeks of Summer Fun! Piece together in rows.
Add background side strips and spool top and bottom. Press well.
Repeat step 2 to make 4 more blocks (5 total). Join 5 blocks and 6 lady fingers together to form Row 1

Eight Weeks of Summer Fun! Borders: Brick Block
Ingredients: 44- 10" squares For EACH brick border block, you will need: Fabric: ( 6) 4½” x 2½” rectangles (4) 2½” squares Block Dimensions: 8" x 8" (finished) / 8½" w x 8½" h (unfinished) The brick borders are the perfect opportunity to use up the scraps from the rest of the quilt. Top & Bottom Border 8 blocks measuring 8½" square + 0 sashing strips = 64½" x 8½" {per border} Side Borders 12 blocks measuring 8½" square + (2) 2" x 8½" end sashing strips = 99½" x 8½" {per border}

Eight Weeks of Summer Fun! Instructions: 1. Arrange fabric pieces as shown below and sew rows together, pressing each seam as you go.
2. Join rows to create the block. Because there are no seams to match, press seams open or to the side (whichever is your preference).
You will need 8 blocks each for the top and bottom borders and 12 blocks each for the side borders (total of 40 blocks). 3. Join 8 blocks to create the top border. Repeat to create the bottom border. Attach to the quilt top. 4. Join 12 blocks to create one side border. Add 2" strips to each end of the border and attach to quilt side. Repeat to create the other side border.
