SUMMARY TRENDS
§ Electricity need will increase § Size of electricity production units will decrease - decentralized production § Controllability of electricity production will decrease § Amount of flexible consumption will increase § ‘Synchronization’ of generation will increase § ‘Synchronization’ of consumption will increase
àMay lead to stress in the distribution grid!!

ROLE OF ELECTRICAL VEHICLES IN SMART GRIDS • Charging an EV is a flexible load à Suitable for Demand Side Management • ‘de-synchronize’ charging of EVs • help to reduce e.g. PV- or Windpeak • An EV can be used as a battery!!

USE AN EV AS A BATTERY
• Integrate EV-charging into DSM • Use EV as battery if the EV is not used à Vehicle to Grid • Charge the EV during high PV or Wind peaks • Discharge the EV in periods of high load in the distribution grid à Vehicle to Home • Store surplus of local generated energy • Use energy at times with no local generation à Increase self consumption

NEEDED: CHANGE IN ENERGY MANAGEMENT
§ Energy Management Systems (EMS) needs to get also inside homes à Decentralized Energy Management (DEM) § Integrate smart appliances and EVs in homes à ‘Home Energy Controllers’ Integrate smart appliances and EVs in local grids à ‘GridControllers’ § The local systems have to be integrated to a global system
