Electronic Verification System (eVS®) Ditch the hard copies for easy, accurate manifesting Every shipment is a balancing act. You deal with a lot of moving parts and details in the process, while your customers expect fast, reliable service. Anything that streamlines your workflow and makes it more efficient can help you keep that balance—plus save you valuable time and money. The USPS® Electronic Verification System (eVS®) can help. It uses paperless mail-management technology to centralize payment processing and electronic postage reports. It lets you reduce reliance on hard-copy manifests and move toward a more accurate, automated shipping process from preparation to reconciliation. That means you can save time, reduce costs, improve productivity, and provide better customer service.
Value eVS technology helps you save money in a variety of ways. More accurate data helps you avoid the cost of payment discrepancies and postage adjustments. eVS technology boosts accuracy by comparing scan events and sampling data against the electronic manifest. And because eVS technology is available to anyone mailing 50 packages or 50 pounds per shipment, even small and midsize shippers can take advantage of the savings. Only one national permit account is required, even if you have multiple mailing sites, and the permit imprint application fee is waived.1
Convenience Making shipping easy is what eVS technology does best. It integrates smoothly with most common data-collection systems. By automating the process, you can cut down on paperwork, which means less chance of entry errors and inaccurate records. And your data and record of electronic payments are readily available through your centralized account online. Sampling is simpler when data is gathered electronically. eVS technology enables mail acceptance and verification to occur anywhere along our processing and automated mail stream. With freedom to bypass the process at the business mail entry unit (BMEU), your shipment process is no longer controlled by on-site verification hours of operation—so you can respond more rapidly to shifting customer needs and order fulfillment. eVS technology further streamlines the shipping process with free USPS Web Tools® (APIs), which provide a precertified, IMpb™-compliant label, generate a manifest, and transmit the mailing file to the Postal Service™ on your behalf. Plus, you can save even more time with flexible mail entry appointments through our Facility Access and Shipment Tracking (FAST®) initiative.
Benefits at a glance • Simplified mail acceptance and verification • Reduced paperwork and manual entry • Automatic presort documentation and postage statements • Decreased overhead costs for printing and storage • Improved tracking of shipments and access to mailing information • More control of your mailings from time of preparation to time of deposit
1. Annual mailing permit fees apply if required for a mail class; however, customers migrating to eVS® technology are not required to pay additional annual fees if their annual fees are current with an existing local permit at the time the eVS technology permit is opened. Annual fees are due for the eVS technology permit for eligible mail classes at the time of the annual fee’s renewal.

Predictability and visibility eVS® technology makes the entire shipping process more transparent. It’s similar to the manual manifest process in the way we sample parcel data to monitor postage accuracy, but data is reconciled against all of your manifests for the month instead of against an individual manifest. You gain access to this data in one centralized place for easy management, plus you get a wealth of customizable online reports that deliver the latest mailing and transaction information 24/7.
Security With eVS technology, your shipping data is protected because electronic communications are supported by either Electronic Data Interchange over Internet or secure file transfer protocol.
How eVS® technology works
Electronic Verification System (eVS®):
A good fit for business™
You document and pay postage, including special service fees, using electronic manifest files. The files are transmitted over the Internet to a Postal Service™ database and postage is electronically deducted from your PostalOne!® postage payment account. Once you submit the files, you can review manifests and see the results of postage samplings through the Business Customer Gateway. This allows you to monitor the quality of your mail and prevent payment errors.
