CSS Athletic Training- Emergency Action Plan Burns Wellness Commons Emergency Personnel (Refer to the following hierarchy): Most qualified individual on site will lead and provide medical care, and will direct remaining personnel in response to an emergency. I. Physician II. Certified Athletic Trainer III. Emergency Medical Technicians IV. Athletic Training Student(s) V. Coaching Staff VI. Game management staff or team managers 1. Perform an initial/primary survey of the situation and the athlete, checking for: a. Level of consciousness b. ABCs (Airway, Breathing, Circulation) c. Bleeding and signs of shock 2. Determine what is needed to attend to the situation (ambulance, AED, splints, etc.). 3. If necessary, instruct one person to call 911, activating EMS (Emergency Medical Systems). 4. You will need to provide the following information for the 911 operator: a. Your name and title b. Type of emergency or suspected injury c. Sex, age and present condition of the athlete (level of consciousness, breathing, circulation, excessive bleeding, etc.) d. Current assistance being given to the athlete e. Telephone number of the phone being used f. Location and address of emergency: Field House/Reif Gymnasium *North entrance, at the doorway between the varsity weight rm & the field house/garage door to field house* 1200 Kenwood Avenue- College of St. Scholastica g. DO NOT hang up until the 911 operator has hung up first and needs no further information. 5. If the ambulance is called, instruct one person to meet the ambulance at the north entrance of the Wellness Center at the doorway between the varsity weight rm & field house/garage door to field house to escort the medical personnel. 6. If 911 is called from a cell phone, Campus Security must be informed (218-723-5937). (If a campus phone was used to call 911, Campus Security will already know.) 7. If an AED is required, two may be found on the main floor of the Wellness Center. One is next to the Campus Rec board and the stairwell leading to the viewing area of the gymnasium. One is located in the hallway of classrooms. 8. If an ATC is not present, but is on campus, send one person to summon an ATC after EMS has been activated. a. ATR office phone numbers: 218-625-4915 or 218-723-5918 9. Continue appropriate care until higher trained medical personnel arrive. 10. Coaching personnel or game management staff should assist in crowd management.
