The design intent is to reconfigure the ECC space to better facilitate information management and to support functionality that meets a variety of evolving demands on the facility. In the two-story Communication Center, the design consolidates the operator workstations with their supervisors in a centralized position and reduces workstation size for closer proximity to collaborate as needed and improve the effective and accurate communication among personnel. One of the client’s drivers for the facility upgrade was reducing sound permeation while maintaining as much visual permeation in the facility as possible as it receives many visitors. It was important to allow access without 1 | Commercial/ Industrial
actually being in the Communication Center. With the client providing key drivers for the design, the design drew from nature. The secured and non-secured areas oppose each other in the floor plan and act as the initiation points and converge in the buffer zone or area of confluence where meeting/amenity areas reside. These areas were kept as visually transparent as possible as to not obstruct viewing. The inspiration manifests itself through the floor pattern acting as way finding for the user. The designs ultimate goal is to provide a supportive, healthier work environment on the operations floor through efficient lighting, climate control system and space utilization.
