Endless Mountains Quiltworks 512 Towne Plaza Suite 120 Tunkhannock, PA 18657 9-15-2014 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Endless Mountains Quiltworks 570-836-7575 or [email protected] AIRING OF THE QUILTS IS OCTOBER 4 The 13th and final Airing of the Quilts will be celebrated Saturday, October 4. “We’ve had 13 wonderful years. It’s time for change,” announced Jeannette Kitlan, owner of Endless Mountains Quiltworks in Tunkhannock. “We have lots of new ideas and we’re making room for them. The future is bright,” added Kitlan who started Airing of the Quilts in 2002 and has coordinated the event since then, growing it into a festival drawing over 3000 people from five states to Tunkhannock. The single day event benefits the area’s economy and supports many small businesses and charities. In 2013, more than $5000 was raised by local church and community volunteers. “Plans are underway to make our last Airing of the Quilts the best ever,” promises Kitlan. Highlighting this year’s Airing is Kathy Hall, designer/curator of the Downton Abbey Fabric Collection. Hall will present a lecture and slide show of her trip to England, visit to Highclere Castle where the popular PBS TV series is filmed, and experience meeting with the Downton Abbey production staff. The lecture is 11am at the Dietrich Theater. Tickets are $7. A Downton Abbey trunk show will be on display at the Dietrich all day. Father Nallin Center will host “A Lifetime of Traditional Quilts” free exhibit of quilts made by Carolyn Harris formerly of Mehoopany. The Wyoming County Courthouse is the setting for a free exhibit of Red and White quilts. The Pennsylvania Invitational Quilt Show is at the Tunkhannock Middle School where 112 quilts will be on display, vendors, door prizes, and more. Admission is $5 for this show. A free trolley shuttles around town all day and is sponsored this year by Habitat for Humanity. Over 200 quilts will be “aired” along Tioga Street. All official Airing venues are 9am to 5pm, rain or shine. Have a quilt to “air” or want to help hang quilts outdoors for this final Airing? Kitlan says many quilts and volunteers are needed to make this a memorable event. Contact Endless Mountains Quiltworks at 570-836-7575 to volunteer or bring your quilts to the shop in the Towne Plaza Shopping Center in Tunkhannock.
