Hello Boggess Families, Mark your calendars for the first Coffee with Carruthers on Friday, September 28th at 7:30am in the Boggess Library. You are invited to join me for an informal meet and greet and small group conversation. Can you believe we are halfway through the first 9 weeks? Progress report will be going home with our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students on Thursday. Next week, third graders will be taking the Science MAP test. This is a program that teaches children lifesaving 9-1-1 skills for getting help in an emergency. Congratulations to our Boggess Staff who exceeded our United Way fundraiser goal winning a free jeans week next week! Thanks Ms. Edie for inspiring us all as our United Way chairwoman. Attached you will find an update on the West Nile Virus and information on the series of parenting classes provided by PISD’s Family Education and Guidance Services department. Building Bright Futures Parenting the child with attention deficits or learning differences This four-week series is for parents who want to develop more effective skills in dealing with and relating to their children who have ADD (attention deficit disorder) or learning differences. Join other interested parents for the series as we share and learn techniques enabling parents to better understand the challenges and advantages of being learning different. Our emphasis will be on discovering the strengths in these children, understanding their needs, and strengthening parenting skills.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren In a growing number of homes, older singles and couples are parenting their grandchildren when the parents are unable to fulfill that role. While the reasons to step in to this role are varied, the challenges for grandparents are universal. Financial and emotional turmoil can result, with both generations feeling needs that are difficult to meet. Parental Authority: One Bite at a Time Establishing parental authority has been occurring at your house since you first enforced a bedtime or helped a toddler to learn the meaning of the word “no.” But if your household now has more than its share of conflicts over rules and expectations, perhaps you have slipped into letting other influences jeopardize your basic authority. Bring your lunch and join other interested parents as we discuss how to regain control and positively affect the atmosphere of your household!
