Dear Parent/Carer and students Re: Sixth Form Examination Leave and Year 12-13 Progression Week I am writing to outline the examination leave for this summer, and the transition programme for Year 12 into Year 13. Please take careful note of information outlined below. This information will also be outlined in assembly and on the school website. Key dates for your diaries: Monday 12 June

Examination Leave begins. Lessons as normal for as long as possible. Students must arrive at least 15 minutes before examination in full school uniform

Monday 19 June

All students return to normal timetable

Tuesday 20 June

Progression weeks commence for students who have completed exams. This is compulsory. Students still with an exam to see Mr Purrier for arrangements. Friday 23 June after Year 13 lessons commence. Students follow normal timetable in all subjects lunch Attendance is compulsory Thurs 17 August Results Day 2017 Year 12 students can collect results from 1pm. All students will need to collect results and have a Progression Meeting in the Main Hall Thurs 7 September Year 13 timetables issued and lessons begin Examination Leave Students will remain in full timetabled lessons until Friday 9 June, well into the exam period and examination leave begins Monday 12 June. Key dates are outlined but it is essential that students remain in all lessons and on time. During examination leave students are only required to be in the school for examinations, or any assigned/pre-arranged revision sessions. The focus is now solely on the summer exams. The final weeks will concentrate on developing areas that need improvement and we encourage students to communicate with staff any areas they would like to focus on in class time. The library will be available for any Year 12 students wishing to use this space during examination leave but the Sixth Form House is closed during the summer exams. Full school rules and uniform remain in place. Some subjects have coursework lessons during exam leave, attendance is compulsory and students will be advised One year construction/business students will not be going on examination leave – lessons will continue as normal

Some students will have completed their examinations earlier than the 12 June. For these students, this time will be used in one of four ways (more information for which will be provided in assembly)    

Volunteering opportunities (own find) Work experience (own find) Independent project or portfolio work to support future pathways/EPQ University open day visits

All students are to return to lessons on Monday 19 June.

Progression Week: Tuesday 20 – Friday 23 June 2017 The Year 12 Progression Week is compulsory for all students. It is designed to provide support and advice for students beyond Sixth Form to enable the preparation of University and Apprenticeship applications. The objective is for all students to have at least two progression routes prepared, and a personal statement completed, so all are able to apply for their chosen pathways early in Year 13. It is important to note that the Progression Week will include:  Tuesday 20 June: A trip to the UCAS Conference at Bedfordshire University  Wednesday 21 June: School based workshops to help prepare applications to university, apprenticeships or alternative routes. These sessions will be led by guest speakers including Goldsmith admission tutors, Frontier Gap Years, and Education and Employers.  Thursday 22 June: A trip to Sussex University (am)and Brighton seafront/pier (pm) ; students will also be given time to explore Brighton Pier and Seafront  Friday 23 June: School based ULAS and interview practice

During each visit students will be given free time in small groups and a draft outline is attached to this letter All school based activities will require students to wear school uniform. For trips students are requested to come in appropriate clothing for the day. In order to participate in all the trips students must return the reply and parental permission slip attached no later than Friday 12 May. For the trips to be run successfully we are asking for a voluntary contribution of £15.00 On Wednesday 21 June there is an Information Evening for parents about applying for University and apprenticeships. This will take place in the Upper School Main Hall from 6:45 pm. Examination results and Progression to Year 13 meetings AS examination results will be published on Thursday, 17 August. We will be open for students to collect results between 1pm and 4pm. On this day students will also need to be available to attend their progression into Year 13 meeting with a member of the Senior or Sixth Form Team. During this meeting a decision on progression into Year 13 will be made based on results (minimum D grade), attendance and attitude, as well as a decision about on-going subject pathways. Attendance at this meeting is essential. Meeting times will be confirmed with students on collection of results. If for any reason a student is not available on Thursday, 17 August to collect their results, or attend the Progression Meeting, it is important that students provide a telephone contact number for the day.

All uncollected results will be held in school for students to collect when school reopens in September. I appreciate that this is a busy period for students as they are rightly focused on their examinations, however, please ensure all reply slips are returned by Friday 12 May. Please contact me at school if you have any further questions. Yours sincerely, Mr Simon Purrier Director of Sixth Form ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Year 12 reply slips Deadline for reply: Friday 12 May - all reply slips to be returned to Mrs Jeffrey Student name: _______________________________
