Getting Started Course Objectives: Learn to use the basic features with 3D models in Adobe Reader efficiently. Prerequisites: Before proceeding with Adobe Reader, you should have a working knowledge of your computer and operating system. Users do not need prior knowledge of 3D modeling.

Conventions Used 1b

The following conventions are used in this Workshop: »

The step of the Workshop is located at the top of each page.

»

The Instructions Panel is located on the left of the page.

»

The large image illustrates the main screen area.

»

The popup images represents a snapshot involving a step.

»

Balloons identify the area of a snapshot in which the User is to make a selection.

»

The alphabetical list conveys the steps in sequential order.

»

Bold blue text within a sentence indicates the name of tools, icons, buttons, or window options.

»

Bold black text within a sentence indicates options selected from a menu.

»

Text enclosed in < > brackets indicate the name of the keyboard key to press. ex: <Esc>

»

Text enclosed in [ ] brackets correspond to the text that suggests to be entered into a text field. ex: [Brake]

»

Roman numerals are used in non-sequential lists, such as a list of options.

»

Buttons highlighted by a blue box identifies the button to select associated with the steps. Red font resembles key comments.

Create cross sectional views from the 3D Toolbar. Steps: a) Select the arrow next to the Toggle Cross Section button and select Cross Section Properties. b) In the Cross Section Properties dialog box check the Enable Cross Section feature. Hit the <Esc> to exit.

Introduction Adobe Reader is an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard that enables any User to share 3D design information without the native CAD geometry or expensive CAD translators. Users can review and add measurements and comments, and reply to comments directly in the PDF file. All users throughout the manufacturing supply chain can streamline 3D CAD data without using high end CAD applications. High-quality 3D content created from professional 3D CAD software is embedded in PDF files allowing Users to view and interact with 3D models. These workshops will navigate you through the Adobe Reader 3D work environment offering easy access to tools you will need most often as you work with PDF files. This training material is designed for you to learn at your own pace the fundamental concepts and features you’ll need for Adobe Reader 3D. The lessons in this book offer step-by-step instructions in the use of software following a process driven orientation. Although each lesson provides instructions in a sequential order, there is room for exploring and experimenting on your own. You can follow the book from start to finish or do only the steps that match your interest and needs.

Step 8: Toggle Perspective View 8a 8a 8b Toggle the Perspective view. Steps: a) In the 3D Toolbar, select the Use Perspective Projection button and notice the projection change. Notice how the view of the model is slightly different. The lug nuts appear more in line. b) Select the same button again to switch back to the Orthographic Projection. Name of button has changed to Use Orthographic Projection.

Orthographic View Represents the exact shape of an object as seen from one side at a time as you are looking perpendicularly to it.

Approximate representation on a flat surface of an image as it is seen by the eye.

Step 9: Change Display Mode 9b 9a

Take a look at the different display modes.

Model Render Mode – Changes the surface appearance of the entire 3D model according to the item you choose from the submenu.

Steps: a) In the 3D Toolbar, select the down arrow of the Model Render Mode. Notice the list of different rendering options. b) Select the Transparent mode. Notice how the 3D model becomes transparent.

c) Take a moment to try a few more rendering options; such as, Illustration, Shaded Illustration, and Shaded Wireframe. When finished return to the Solid display mode.

Adjust the lighting from the 3D Toolbar.

Steps: a) In the 3D Toolbar, select the down arrow of the Enable Extra Lighting button to view the different lighting options.

b) Take a moment to try a few lighting options; Bright Lights, Night Lights, and Cube Lights. When finished switch back to Headlamp lighting.

Change the background color. Steps:

a) In the 3D Toolbar, select the down arrow of the Background Color button. b) Select any color to change the color of the background. Here we chose Sky Blue. c) Try a few other different background colors. When finished return to the White background color.
