WLVT TV Lehigh Valley Pennsylvania POSITION TITLE: Grant Writer REPORTS TO: Managing Director, Advancement RESPONSIBILITIES: As a member of the Advancement team, the Grant Writer secures private support for PBS39 and its affiliates by conducting the full range of activities required to obtain grants, including: researching prospective funders, matching funder mission to public media and education projects and activities, preparing timely proposals, and managing the grant process from conception to completion.
Essential Duties: 1. Participate in the development of strategies for funding requests to foundations, government entities, corporate foundations and charitable giving programs. 2. Gather information on specific programs requiring funding; align project elements with funder interests and grant requirements. 3. Coordinate the development of grant requests by establishing timelines and facilitating agreement regarding content and budgets with other departments and project partners. 4. Manage calendar and timely submission of grant applications, reports, contracts, and other documents. 5. Maintain a system for tracking all grant submissions, reporting deadlines, and renewal due dates. 6. Compile, write and edit quality grant applications/proposals. 7. Participate in completion of large grant applications/proposals. 8. Create letters of intent, follow-up letters, reports, proof of performance documents and related documents to meet funder needs, including interim and final grant reports meeting funder requirements. 9. Monitor grant activities to ensure deliverables met, outcomes measured, and impact indicators collected/reported. 10. Connect with community partners as required, draft letters of support, collect information from partners and provide information to partners. 11. Maintain centrally accessible records in electronic and paper files, including grant paperwork, communications, and research documents.
12. Work with Accounting and Membership Departments process all gifts, ensuring organized and timely data entry of funder contract information and acknowledgements. 13. Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience: 1. Bachelor Degree in English, Education, business or related field, or equivalent. 2. Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in research and grant writing.
Skills/Abilities/Qualifications: 1. Knowledge of Pennsylvania and national foundations and corporations preferred. 2. Passion for education as well as public media mission, vision, values and content. 3. Well-developed written and oral communication and the ability to translate organizational efforts to prospects’ and donors’ needs. 4. Excellent interpersonal skills required to relate to funders, program officers, subject matter experts, and colleagues. 5. Able to motivate and work with diverse constituencies. 6. Possess high level of integrity and able to exercise confidentiality and discretion. 7. Negotiating, organizational, analytical and fundraising skills. 8. Experience in project design and assessment preferred. 9. Able to work independently with minimal supervision; a self-starter. 10. Demonstrated ability to write successful grant proposals. 11. Ability to plan for, and work under pressure of deadlines. 12. High proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
