Everyone Loves Robots, but many girls today feel that they aren't supposed to like robotics and engineering because building is seen as a "boy's activity." Eileen Pollack, a NY Times writer with a degree in Physics, says, "The most powerful determinant of whether a woman goes on in science might be whether anyone encourages her to go on." She explains in her article that the culture around pursuing degrees in physics, math, engineering, other hard sciences is still centered around the male experience. We at the Robot Foundry want to change that experience: we believe that all children, no matter their gender identity, can love STEM and grow up to have a successful career in the sciences. This is why, through our Women in Tech Lecture Series, we have raised over $500.00 to integrate girls into our STEM programs and to encourage them to explore and question their world. We want to say a sincere "Thank You" to all of our Women in Tech Lecturers, and to Park Slope Parents for helping us promote our event. Together, we can level the playing field for all children to become future STEM leaders. If you are interested in speaking with us more about how the Robot Foundry encourages girls to love STEM, or you have a great idea about a program or event we should know about, please reach out by responding to this email!

Here's our joke of the week: "What do you call two dinosaurs that have been in an accident?" (scroll to the bottom to read the answer)

This Weekend At The Foundry: Join us for a weekend of One Time Classes! We are offering three separate classes in our TriBeCa and Upper East Side locations. These classes are great for both children who want to try out our programs, and for avid builders who can't get enough of the Foundry! In TriBeCa, on Saturday from 3:30-5:00 PM, children can choose to make either a Dragon or a Light Sabre. In the Upper East Side, on Saturday from 1:00-2:30 PM, children can choose to make either a Glow Pet or a Tiny Helicopter. On Sunday, from 10:00-11:30, children can choose to make either a Submarine or a Tiny Boat.

Meet Our Staff!

Brian is our TriBeCa location manager and one of our funniest staff members (and that means a lot- we all have a great sense of humor!). In addition to organizing our TriBeCa location programs, Brian works to connect underserved communities to our program through our scholarship program. By spearheading programs such as our successful Women in Tech Lecture series, Brian works to make our STEM programs accessible to everyone. Outside of the Foundry, Brian creates unique productions as a co-founder of Rady&Bloom Collective Playmaking. He likes to act, produce, and cook fresh meals.
