EWGA Cup Official Rules & Policies

Schedule: The EWGA Cup is an amateur competition conducted under the direction of the EWGA Association Headquarters (EWGA). Competition two stages of play: 1. Qualifiers – Team competition comprised of 18 holes of four-

ball match play and 18 holes of singles match play to be played over 2 days. Qualifiers take place in September and October. 2. Cup Finals – Team competition comprised of 18 holes of four-ball match play and 18 holes of singles match play to be completed over 2 days. Cup Finals will be held in November. Eligibility: Entries are open to all EWGA Chapter members in good standing who are female amateur golfers*, and have a verifiable USGA Handicap Index. The maximum USGA Handicap Index is. 40.4. Competitors with an Index higher than 40.4 will play with a course handicap equal to that of a player with a 40.4 Handicap Index. Yardage and Slope: Where available, the following yardage ranges will be used: Format of Play Singles HI 12.0 and less Singles HI 12.1 to 40.4 Four-Ball – all matches

Slope 120 - 130 115 - 125 120 - 130

EWGA Member-in-Good-Standing: At the time of registration for The Cup, and at any level of advancement, players must be EWGA Chapter members with current membership processed and on record at EWGA Headquarters. Amateur Status: All players must conform to the USGA Rules of Amateur Status as specified in the USGA Rules of Golf. By her application, the player verifies that she has not received remuneration other than as specified as acceptable by the USGA Rules of Amateur Status. Refer to the USGA Rules of Golf for the Definition of an Amateur Golfer. Handicaps: Players are required to: 1. Have an established USGA Handicap Index by the Revision Date of the respective Qualifier; AND 2. Have an equivalent of three (3) 18-hole scores posted to their handicap record in the current year prior to the Revision Date for their respective Qualifier.

Players with less than the minimum requirements posted in the current year will not be eligible to compete. To establish a USGA Handicap Index, a player must post a minimum of five (5) 18-hole equivalent scores prior to the next handicap revision date. Competitors at all levels of The Cup will be responsible for ensuring that all their scores have been posted to their record. Scoring records are reviewed for accuracy and players notified of any possible discrepancies. At registration, disputes to the verified index must be supported by printed verification as of the published handicap verification date. At any level of The Cup, the Committee reserves the right to adjust a player’s Course Handicap if her performance is not reflective of her handicap, or based on knowledge of the player’s failure to post all acceptable scores, or otherwise not observing the spirit of the USGA Handicap System. Rules of Golf: The USGA Rules of Golf govern all play. The Committee will settle all disputes. Please see The Cup Conditions of Competition (Hard Card) for additional conditions governing play. Rules Meeting: Knowledge of match play rules and conditions of play are the responsibility of the player. A mandatory player rules meeting is held at each level of the competition on the evening prior to the start of competition. Scoring: Competitors earn 1 point for a win, and ½ point for a tie towards their team’s total. Team Composition: Teams consist of 8 members. Chapters may field multiple teams. Chapters may form inter-chapter teams consisting of members from multiple Chapters. Below are recommended methods for team formation: 1. Select team members based on interest (recommended for inter-chapter teams) 2. Conduct a stroke play qualifier and select a combination of lowest gross score players and/or lowest net score players; 3. Conduct a series of Match Play events with points for wins and ties and select players with the most points; 4. Use a points system for participation in Chapter events – e.g., 1 pt. for league play each week; 2 pts. for 18-hole event participation, etc.; or

5. Hold a match play league or ladder and select the players with the most match wins. Caddies: Caddies are not permitted.

Four Ball Handicap Allowances: The player with the lowest handicap in each pairing is reduced to a zero handicap. Within the pairing, the remaining players’ Course Handicaps are reduced by the Course Handicap of the lowest player.

Advancing to The Cup Finals: The first place team at each regional will automatically qualify to advance to the Cup Finals. One European team from their respective Qualifier will advance to The Cup Finals. All other advancement opportunities will be determined using a percentage basis. The number of teams advancing from a regional will be determined based on the number of teams in each regional, the total number of teams in all regionals and the course capacity at the Cup Finals. The maximum number of teams at any regional qualifier and at the finals will be determined by course capacity. The number of teams that will qualify to advance at a regional will be announced no later than the time at which pairings are finalized for that regional.

Example: Players A, B, C and D have Course Handicaps of 5, 10, 15 and 20 respectively. Player A plays to scratch (a zero handicap), B receives 5 strokes, C receives 10 strokes, and D receives 15 strokes.

Registration for Qualifiers & Team Selection: Team entries are awarded on a first-come, firstserve basis until the Qualifier field is full. Each Qualifier field is limited to 14 teams. If we have two courses, the field size will be limited to 28 teams. Team entries will be confirmed in the order of receipt of full payment of all team members. Team entries are guaranteed after ALL team members have paid their Qualifier event entry fees. All team members must register individually online.

Pace of Play: Players shall play without undue delay. It is a stated goal of the EWGA to complete all The Cup rounds in 4.5 hours or less. Refer to “Pace of Play Policy” for more details.

Inter-Chapter and Chapter teams may participate in the Qualifier of their choice regardless of their Chapter’s regional designation.

Personal Conduct: By submitting an entry for any EWGA competition, players understand that their participation is at the sole discretion of the EWGA. A contestant may be disqualified from the competition at the discretion of the Committee in charge at any time before or during the competition. Incidents of unbecoming conduct or actions deemed to be detrimental to the image of the EWGA are grounds for such disqualification.

Refunds All requests for player refunds must be submitted by the team captain using the Player Substitution/Player Refund Form. Deadlines: All deadlines will be posted on www.ewgacup.com under About the Cup. Substitutions: If an individual player is unable to compete at any level of The Cup, a substitution is permitted. In order to maintain the integrity of the original team, the number of substitutions for a team that is advancing to Cup Finals is limited to three players. If there are not 5 original members advancing, the team must submit a Decline to Advance form. All substitutes must meet The Cup eligibility requirements and be registered to play seven (7) days prior to the start of competition. After the 7-day deadline, if a player withdraws, no substitution is allowed. In Singles play, the team forfeits the match. For the Four-Ball matches, the player without a partner plays a Best-Ball format – their ball against the best ball of the other two opponents in the match.

Within a pairing, the maximum number of strokes between team members’ Course Handicaps is six (6) strokes. If adjustments are needed to maintain the 6-stroke spread, the higher handicap player’s Course Handicap will be reduced. Example: Player A has a Course Handicap of 15 and Player B has Course Handicap of 26. Player B’s Course Handicap is reduced to 21 to maintain the 6-stroke spread.

Personal Appearance: Proper golf attire is required at all levels of The Cup. Players must be neat in appearance with respect to personal grooming and clothing. Bermuda shorts or their equivalent and golf type shirts preferably with collars are required. Jeans are not permitted.

Spectators: At any level of The Cup, spectators, including family and friends, may follow the players provided it is permitted by the golf facility. Spectators must remain on cart paths and/or at least 15 yards from players and are not permitted on fairways or putting greens. Spectators are cautioned not to talk to players as such conversation may be construed as giving advice. Spectators are not allowed to use carts on the competition course. Spectators with special needs must contact EWGA for accommodations. Appeal Process: Appeals or questions, actions taken, or decisions regarding The Cup shall be made in writing to The Cup Committee. Decisions of the Committee are final. There is no further appeal process.
