arm Engineering Industries Ltd (FEIL) is investing $14 million in the latest state-ofthe-art facilities to enable it to compete with the Western world. The company, which is one of East Africa’s leading manufacturers and distributors of agricultural, forestry, mining, construction and commercial transport equipment, is building a new headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The new facility comprises a manufacturing/fabrication factory, warehouse and sales offices and showroom, which will initially accommodate about 150 workers
and over the next two years management is confident it will create at least 100 new jobs. Jit Bhurji, Co-founder and Group Chairman, said: “This new facility will be equipped with all the latest technology to enable us to improve our products and become ever more efficient. It will also become a central distribution base for all our facilities throughout East Africa. “It is the biggest expansion we have ever gone through and will allow us to compete with the Western world. Africa is growing and Africa needs professional outlets where all the various contractors from all around the 3

world and the people of Kenya can get premium service. “The days of having a small workshop and doing things haphazardly are coming to an end because people want quality and top service.” Finishing touches The finishing touches are being made to the 60,000sq ft warehouse, scheduled for completion at the end of March before it is fully stocked with parts. The new centralised distribution hub will enable FEIL to bulk buy parts thereby presenting customers with lower costs and also helping to reduce lead times. The new

manufacturing facility is due to be operational by June. FEIL, which employs about 350 people, is currently split into three divisions; manufacturing, construction and agriculture, with two main bases in Kenya at Nairobi and Kisumu and a third in Kampala, Uganda. Bhurji said: “Centralising our distribution from Nairobi makes sense for us because the logistics for all our operations work well out of the city.” There are also seven branches in Kenya and Uganda and one in Tanzania and the company has its eye firmly on expansion into South Sudan, Rwanda and DRC Congo, where it currently operates
