For students receiving financial aid, tuition payments are adjusted accordingly. Payment Policies A ll payments of tuition, fees, or other charges should be paid to the Business Office when due. The following policies direct the actions of The School and those of faculty and staff. • The Financial Aid Committee will not consider an application for financial aid until all accounts are current. • The School may withhold student grade reports, student transcripts, diplomas, or recommendations if tuition and other incurred charges are not paid. • The School reserves the right not to permit a student to register, attend class, and/or take exams if the student account is in arrears. Educational Loan Options: T o help manage costs, we would also direct you to three different organizations that work with private school families to serve as an additional resource for tuition assistance. These

third-party providers have agreed to work with Harpeth Hall families who qualify. In each case, a family may apply directly to the program in order to receive fixed-rate, low interest loans to assist with tuition. For more information on each of the programs, please see below. • Your Tuition Solution, tuitionsolution.com • Sallie Mae, SallieMae.com/K12 • prepGATE Loan Program, 1-866-362-GATE or prepgate.com Tuition Refund Plan A s with any insurance plan, the Tuition Refund Plan is protection against the unexpected. A serious illness or family move out of town may necessitate the student’s withdrawal from school. The signed enrollment contract, however, obligates the parent/guardian to pay tuition and incurred costs for the entire school year. The TRP allows the parent to recoup some of the costs, the amount being determined by the timing and nature of the student’s withdrawal from school. Information about this program is included annually with the enrollment contract.

Financial Aid Information What Is Financial Aid? F inancial aid is need-based tuition assistance. Decisions regarding financial aid are made by the Financial Aid Committee on the basis of demonstrated need and the availability of funds. Such need is defined, most simply, as the difference between the school’s tuition and what the family can reasonably contribute. Although we are strongly committed to a healthy financial aid budget, we are not able to award financial aid to every family who qualifies. In awarding financial aid within the context of limited funds, the Financial Aid Committee must weigh the student’s academic and personal record, her potential contribution to the community, and Harpeth Hall’s commitment to maintaining a diverse community of individuals from all socio-economic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Harpeth Hall also looks for evidence that a family’s commitment to their daughter’s education is as strong as the School’s. W e awarded $1,593,675 in financial aid to 18% of the student body for the 2014-2015 academic year with an average award of $13,063. The Financial Aid Committee keeps all financial information confidential and grants awards regardless of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, or disability. It is also the obligation of the family to keep details of financial aid awards confidential. T uition assistance is granted for one year. Renewal is not automatic or guaranteed as funds vary from year to year and each family’s financial circumstances may change from year to year. Therefore, families are required to submit application forms annually. Families who enter Harpeth Hall without receiving aid should not expect to receive aid in future years unless there is a change in the family’s financial status.

Will I Qualify? Many families want to know whether they should apply for aid. Some families who are in the middle income range may not consider Harpeth Hall because they feel they cannot afford the tuition, and they assume that their income is too high to qualify for assistance. Many factors enter into the determination of financial aid awards, such as household income and expenses, assets and indebtedness, and the number of children attending tuition charging schools and colleges. Because individual family financial circumstances differ, the calculation of need will be unique to each circumstance. Given the many variables that affect an award decision, it is impossible to accurately predict a family’s financial aid award based solely on family income. However, we provide the following table as a guide. It illustrates the financial aid distribution at Harpeth Hall for 2014-2015. Total Income Before Tax

Harpeth Hall Teaching girls in grades five through twelve to think critically, to lead confidently, and to live honorably.

Harpeth Hall uses the School and Student Services (SSS) by NAIS to help determine need. The family completes a Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) which asks for information on income, expenses, assets and liabilities. SSS then estimates the family contribution. The Financial Aid Committee uses that estimate, in combination with completed tax documentation, to determine need. It is imperative that families, both new and returning, meet financial aid deadlines because every year there is more demand for aid than funds available. The Financial Aid Committee will only make decisions for families whose files are complete, whose accounts are current, and whose student is in good academic and personal standing.
