Exploring Careers Know Your Strengths Learning Target: The purpose of this project is to help you focus your career search by finding occupations that match your interests based upon your strengths.
1. Go to www.careercruising.com and enter your username (pekin) and password (highschool). Click on Log In . 2. Next, log in to “My Plan.” Enter your username ( PCHS followed by your school username) and password (same as school password). Example: PCHSsmithjoe000 and a1b2c3d4.
3. On the Main page, click on the Assessments link in the top menu bar. 4. Choose Start Matchmaker . Read the instructions on the Introduction page, then enter a name for your session (ex: 2015 ) under the Matchmaker Label heading. Click Start Now to begin. ● Answer the first 39 questions (make sure to answer all 116 by the end). Consider each question carefully. The more thought you put into your answers, the better your results will be. For help, read the More Info section next to the question. ● Next, click on the Answer More Questions button in the Improve My Results section on the lower left side of the page. Hint: Do not choose the yellow “Does not matter” box because it will skew your results.
5. Choose Start my Skills in the box on the lower left side of the page. Read the instructions on the Introduction page. Click Start Now to begin answering questions. Hint: Do not choose the gray “Can’t Answer This” box will skew your results. Most of your answers should be the green or yellow boxes. 6. Click on the Assessments link in the top menu bar. Choose Learning Styles Inventory . Read the instructions on the Introduction page. Click Start Now to begin answering questions. Read your results! This is how you learn! :)
7. In the top left corner, click on the tab called My Plan → 2015 ( found under Matchmaker & My Skills) . Now you can browse through your list of career suggestions. Hint: The careers are ranked according to how well they suit your identified interests. Here is how you research a career: ● Click on one of the careers in your Career Interest Rank list. Clicking will take you to the Suitable for You? page . ● Click the blue bold titles on the left side of the screen to explore the career (At a Glance, Earnings, Interview, etc.).
8. After browsing through the careers on your suggestion list, save as many careers as your are interested in pursuing by clicking Save to My Plan located on the top right corner of the screen.

9. Now that you’ve done the hard work, start saving your interests. Click around and save. Have fun!

Look for classes you would like to take at PCHS that will help prepare for your future career. ○ Request a meeting with your counselor to discuss your results and options. Together you can create a Four Year Plan to help prepare you for your future career.
