Sewing & Embroidery Club – January 15th

Fabric Box with Tassels Techniques: Creating a fabric box, Creating thread tassels, Satin stitching around curves and corners Supplies Needed: Fabric & Such ! Light-to-Medium Weight Fabrics: quilter’s cotton, linen or linen blends, silk dupioni, satin, etc. " Two 16” squares for the box (black cotton in sample) " Two 12” squares for the box lid (red cotton in sample) ! 3/4 yard of 15” wide Floriani Stitch-N-Shape double-side fusible √, cut as follows: " One 14-1/2” square " One 11-1/2” square Thread ! Embroidery threads to blend with each fabric plus bobbins of the same (black and red in sample) √ ! Embroidery threads for creating tassels, if different from above (black, red and white in sample) √ Needles & Notions ! Size 80 & 90 Microtex Sharp needles. Also bring size 80 and/or 90 Topstitch needles just in case you need them. √ ! Non-stick pressing sheet or applique pressing sheet (required!) √ ! Jenny Haskins’ Magic Tassel and Fringe Maker √ -or- one 3” x 10” piece of straight cardboard cut to the template on Page 3 ! Scissors to cut Stitch-N-Shape (if you don’t want to use your fabric scissors) √ ! Standard Sewing Supplies (fabric scissors, paper scissors, pins, seam gauge, tape measure, etc.) √ Machine & Accessories ! Open Toe foot (optional) √ ! 4mm Beading foot (Viking, Pfaff), Pearls and Piping foot (BabyLock), 59/59C Double Cord foot (Bernina) for creating the tassels. Note: Other feet may also work. The foot needs to have a large groove in the bottom and the ability to do a zigzag over the groove. √ ! Sewing Machine in good working order with manual, basic feet and accessories √ Embroidery Supplies ! Embroidery unit, foot & accessories √ ! Embroidery design of your choice (no larger than 4” square recommended). Note: The dice design shown on the sample box will be provided during the class. If you want this design, bring a USB stick. If you are going to stitch it out during class, also bring the necessary media for your machine (USB stick, floppy disk, etc.). If you want to do the embroidery prior to the class, it is available at DSC on the demo computer in the Alicia folder along with the zippered ITH bags from November. Note: if you received the zippered ITH bag designs during the November sessions, you also received the dice design. √ ! 4x4 or larger Embroidery hoop √ ! Size 75 and 90 Embroidery Needles √ ! Stabilizer appropriate for chosen design and fabric √ √ Denotes items available for purchase at Dublin Sewing Center. These items should always be purchased at Dublin Sewing Center to ensure that you have the correct product and to ensure that we can continue to teach these Clubs at a low price. Please remember, though, that we only carry a few of each item at a time so it is best to purchase your items prior to the class (in person or by phone).

Pre-Class Preparation: If not using a Tassel Maker, cut the cardboard as per the template on Page 3. This works best using an Xacto knife or similar. DO NOT bend or crease the cardboard. This must be done prior to class - Xacto knives may not be used in the classroom for safety reasons.
