2010-2011 Child Care and School Fact Sheet

Thanks to universal enforcement of the California Immunization Law (Health and Safety Code, Sections 120325-120375 and California Code of Regulations, Sections 6000-6075) children in child care and schools are well protected against vaccine-preventable diseases. The implementation of statewide requirements has been effective in maintaining ≥ 92% immunization coverage among children in licensed child care facilities and kindergartens.

1 Diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine (DTaP) or a combination of DTaP and diphtheria-tetanus vaccine (DTaP, DT, Td). 2 Inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) or a combination of IPV and oral polio vaccine (OPV). 3 For child care entry, one dose of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines given separately or combined (MMR) is required. For kindergarten entry, one dose of measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines given separately or combined (MMR) and an additional dose of measles-containing vaccine is required. 4 For child care entry, one dose of Haemophilus influenzae type B vaccine (Hib) is required. 5 Hepatitis B vaccine (Hep B). 6 Varicella vaccine (Var) or physician-documented disease (chickenpox) history or immunity.
