For the Mind of Christ

“I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14

“Onward” For four years our Annual Conference has focused on themes related to our United Methodist mission statement: “To make and mature disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Each year a theme is introduced to set the tone of emphasis for the coming year. The first year’s theme, “Jesus Is Calling…” focused on the call of Jesus in each of our lives and had us consider: if we have answered Christ’s call, how we struggle with acknowledging/answering it, and how we are living out the call placed on our life, to model it for others.

The themes for the following years were: (2014) “Jesus Is Calling Us In” centering on identifying new or potential disciples and inviting them into our covenant communities; (2015) “Jesus Is Calling Us Up” focusing on motivating, maturing disciples and encouraging disciples to take the next step in their faith journey; and finally this year (2016) “Jesus Is Calling Us Out” will place the challenge to transform the world. Our time together will focus on the need to leave the walls of the church, enter our mission fields, and transform the world as the hands and feet of Christ. The 2016 Scripture Verse is 2 Corinthians 5:17. “So then, if anyone is in Christ, that person is part of the new creation. The old things have gone away, and look, new things have arrived!” (CEB) Now you may be reading this and say something to the effect of “big whoop”, “who cares?”, “we already know all of this”, or “what does this have to do with me/ our church…?” Now, I don’t know what all is planned this year. I don’t know what all will be reported, presented, discussed, preached and focused on during worship, or encouraged through the week of conference. However, I am looking forward to finding out, and then doing what I can in faithful response.

I know I’ll hear unsettling things once again about the health of our denomination, however I will also hear about the great things being accomplished. I know I’ll also be reminded of the great possibilities, for what can be, when we continue to respond faithfully and sacrificially to the call and claim of Christ on our lives individually and as a body. I have always come away challenged and overall renewed, refreshed, strengthened and encouraged to continue to respond and serve faithfully. As we have moved through these conference sessions, I have sensed a calling us all back to the basics of our faith and practices as United Methodists. Those basics led to our growth and vitality as a movement in the mid1700s that lasted well into the late 1900s. There is a still a great deal of growth and vitality to be found among us. If there is one thing that is certain, God in Christ never ceases to call, gather us in, lift us up and send us for divine purposes. What is always uncertain is whether we will respond in faith to the ever-present grace of God at work and necessary in our lives, and trust and follow God’s lead into the future unafraid. The apostle Paul said, “I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus.” Let’s continue to “press on” together responding faithfully as we serve our Lord! Jesus is ever calling! Grace & peace,

Pastor Jeff

Like to read? TSPL’s Extension and Outreach Department offers to select and deliver materials for individuals in Tiffin and Seneca County who are physically unable to use the library’s facilities due to temporary or long-term illness or disability or non-driver status. Delivery of library materials can be tailored to meet the needs of each individual and special requests are accepted. There are several options for delivery: a designated friend or relative can pick up materials. Materials can be delivered to homebound individuals by library staff on an arranged service schedule. The only requirement is a library card, which is free. No overdue fines are incurred for homebound individuals and they get longer lending periods. Additionally, individuals with low vision are eligible to receive a Talking Book machine through the State Library of Ohio and the Ohio Library for the Blind and Physically Disabled. If you are interested in these services or know of someone who would greatly benefit from them, please contact Emily Rinaman at 419-4473751 or [email protected].

"Attention" Save the date Mark your calendar. On July 31 we will be having a combined worship service. This will be all 3 services together at 10:15 AM. Sunday school will still be at 9:15AM. The group HIS BLANK CANVAS will be doing the service. They are the ones that did the chalk talk for us before. They do worship services too. We will probably have a potluck afterwards. Watch for more information forthcoming in bulletins or newsletter. Jane Schubert On Sunday May 15th we welcomed Susan Funston into our covenant community. Susan transferred her membership from Sycamore UMC

ACOLYTES and AUDIO VISUAL TECH We are looking for some more help with these things. With summer approaching and vacations starting, we are looking for help filling some of these empty spots. For acolytes you need to be going into 4th grade by fall or older. We also need some help with the AV systems. You need some computer knowledge for this. There will be training for both groups. Contact Jane Schubert for acolytes 419-448-8267 and Pastor Jeff or Jane for helping with AV. Jane Schubert

Summer Camp Have you signed up for camp yet? It’s not to late to do so. There are many types of camp available for your young person. Fishing, hiking, sports, night owl, and many many more. Camp goes by the grade you are entering in the fall. We already have 6 youth signed up. They are going to Camp Aldersgate. There are 2 more working on it. If you need information please contact me. It is not too late to sign up. Jane Schubert 419-448-8267

Camp fund Well our youth have decided on which camp they are going too. We are very lucky to have 6 of our youth signed up at this time. Our church has said they will pay $205 per camper to help with the camp fee. We don’t want any family not to be able to send their youth to camp. If you could help with a donation it would be greatly appreciated. Our youth gain so much from camp. It is really a great investment of our money. Just put it in an envelope and mark it camp fund and place it in the offering. Thanks for your help with this. Jane Schubert

You may take the items to the Salvation Army at 505 E. Market St. Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or place items in the box in the Narthex. The Salvation Army also provides lunch-time meals and can always use help, especially on Tuesdays beginning at 9:30 a.m. Call ahead to schedule date and time. We also want to thank those who have given their time and money to support our many missions these past months. God has blessed us and we must help others in their time of need. Thank you for your support.
