Heredia Falls in Match Play at 2015 British Boys Amateur Championships
Pickala Golf, Finland – (July 11, 2015) Bowling Green State University incoming freshman Pablo Heredia concluded his play this week for his Spanish Boys National Team at the 2015 European Boys’ Team Championship in Pickala Golf, Finland. In the final day of play on July 11, Heredia and Spain defeated Iceland 4.5-0.5 in match play. Playing at the number one spot for the Spanish team, Heredia halved his round of play against Gisli Sveinbergsson of Iceland. “This was a great experience for Pablo. To represent his country and play against some of the top competition in all of Europe is something he will never forget,” commented Falcons’ head coach Kevin Farrell. “I know this will help Pablo not only in his golf game, but also in his transition to the U.S., Ohio and Bowling Green State University come this fall.” Overall Spain went 1-2 in the team match play portion of the championship event. In the two rounds of individual stroke play, Heredia finished in a tie for 25th overall with a 36-hole score of 145, +1, with rounds of 73, +1, and 72, even par.

Pablo has the potential to come in and compete right away, and to help our team continue to take steps toward challenging in each event we play in.” Heredia was defeated by Jake Benson of Denmark by two holes, as he took the match all the way to the 18th green with a chance to send the bout onto the 19th hole. A NOTE FROM COACH FARRELL
Dear BGSU Golf Alumni and Fans, I am very excited to be entering my fourth season at the helm of the men’s golf program here at Bowling Green State University. I have built a schedule this year that is not only based on the strength of our opponents and the strength of the tournament fields, but also includes some smaller events which we will have a chance to compete in and win. The way that the NCAA looks at the postseason is based not only on the strength of schedule by a team, but the team must also be above .500 in terms of head-to-head records against the teams that they compete against in the tournaments all season long. For example, if we go to a 12 team tournament and finish fourth overall at the event, our headto-head record would be 8-3 for that tournament meaning we finished ahead of eight teams and behind three teams on the team leaderboard. Any team ranked inside the top-70 in the country gets an at large bid to the NCAA Regionals or of course you can win your conference tournament to get an automatic bid into the regionals. If we play well, we have a legitimate chance to sneak into the NCAA Regionals this year. Please try and make time to consider coming back in October for the fundraiser event the Falcon Scramble at the Belmont Country Club. There will be some awesome prizes and you will get to see the new home of the Falcon men’s golf team!
