F A L L IN G R O C K —A lberta, B anff, M t. R undle. Geoffrey T aylor (16) and Steve O rd (16) were clim bing Mt. R undle on August 4 by the usual easy route. They becam e separated, O rd being in front, and m aintained contact by voice. Taylor stopped calling about noon, and O rd retu rn ed to find him . Rocks h ad fallen from the cliff above the trail and seriously injured him . He was not w earing a helm et, b u t fortunately h ad no head injuries. He was not bleeding, so O rd gave him spare clothing, d raped him with bright orange ponchos, and went down for help. Taylor was evacuated by helicopter. He h ad broken both arm s and several vertebrae. (Source: S. O rd.) Analysis: Rocks fall from cliffs and we should avoid being under them as m uch as possible. H elm ets should be worn at these times. It is better not to separate, although h ad the two been very close, both might have been injured. (Source: S. O rd.)
