INT. LIVING ROOM – DAY
MAGGIE (46) sits on the couch, in shock, glued to the TV screen. The President’s speech just ended. A newscaster comes on. TV NEWSCASTER
That was the President just about two hours ago. WES(17) walks in the door. He dumps his book bag and sits next to Maggie, his mom. She hugs him tight. MAGGIE
Oh my baby. I love you so much. He stretches out on his stomach. She knows what he wants. She rubs his back. He relaxes, exhausted. SCOTT (18) comes down the stairs. SCOTT
What is going on? People are going crazy on the net. Did you see that speech? Is that some kind of sick joke? MAGGIE
No baby. Come here. Sit next to mommy. SCOTT
Oh my God. It’s real? Scott sits next to her and leans on her shoulder. She hugs him with one arm while still rubbing Wes. SCOTT
Does he know? MAGGIE
No. SCOTT
I think he’s asleep.

She pulls a blanket over Wes and gives him a kiss. AMY (28) walks in the door with JACK (29). They go upstairs. We hear he TV go on in their room. The news is on every channel. JON (58) walks in the door. JON
You guys OK? Does Wes know? MAGGIE
You heard? JON
Yeah. They let us out early. How about Amy and Jack? Maggie holds an index finger up: wait for it. Amy rushes into the room. She sees the look on her parents faces. She immediately goes to her mother. Scott moves to the floor at his mother’s feet. Amy sits next to her and they hug. Jack sits next to Amy. He puts his hand on her back and massages her shoulder. AMY
Mom? Are we going to die? Maggie remains quiet and hugs her. Amy’s eyes fill with tears. AMY
I don’t want to die mom. I just graduated. MAGGIE
I know baby. I know. Maggie holds her tight. Jon sits on the floor next to Scott. It is a final family portrait, all bunched together on the couch. We see scenes on the screen of a tidal wave hitting the camera. Another POV camera engulfed in flames. Another POV camera engulfed in wind and dust, carried off and swirling around until it goes out. Jon puts his arm around Scott. Scott leans his head into Jon’s shoulder.

The TV goes out. The room begins to rumble. Glasses and bottles fall of shelves and break. Walls begin to crumble. There is screaming. Wind and dust engulf the scene. Through it all we see glimpses of the family hugging each other tightly, then torn apart. We see Wes wake up amidst the swirling dust, wind and debris. Maggie grabs and holds him tight. There are flames, rumbling, and debris flying everywhere. And then the wind, debris, and dust are all that is left. We pan around to see a vast landscape of destruction. There are no people in sight. No cars. No buildings. Just trash everywhere. A dark stormy sky above. Then out of nowhere a mass of water engulfs everything and we are under water. The light from above diminishes until there is only darkness. Nothing. We track upward to the surface of the water. There is only very turbulent water as we pan in every direction. A final massive wave engulfs us. Then the water becomes calm. The sky turns red and then fire is suddenly everywhere. We pan to see bursting fountains of flames. We are on a new sun.
