“Christians are called to redeem entire cultures, not just individuals.” This statement of Chuck Colson was one of the inspirations for Q, a learning community intended to increase Christian awareness and involvement in the modern world. The mission of Q is to equip Christians to address the most important issues facing our communities and culture through four key questions: 1. What is right that needs to be promoted? 2. What is wrong that needs to be confronted/corrected? 3. What is missing that needs to be created? 4. What is confusing that needs to be clarified? Pastor Kevin Glenn introduced Calvary and Las Cruces to Q Commons in Fall of 2016 after seeing a “Q Talk” by Timothy Keller about teaching Christians to engage and influence culture. Pastor Kevin, along with Q leadership, believes Christians should be leading conversations on culture, not simply reacting to cultural shifts. Q Commons Las Cruces 2017 will feature both national talks streamed at Calvary, as well as local talks about cultural issues going on right here in our community. National speakers will focus on: Cultivating Virtue in a Celebrity Culture, Confronting our Technology Addiction and Our Complicated Moment. Local Topics will include: The Necessity of Civil Dialogue, The Power of Partnership in Education, Partnering for Women’s Health and Family Well-Being as well as a spoken word performance. “When people come to Q Commons I think they can expect to be provoked in thinking. They’ll be surprised by the array of topics that will be covered, as well as surprised by the people covering them. Some will hear things they don’t agree with and that’s perfectly OK, the idea is to get people thinking. Hopefully people will also be encouraged by
what they hear and it will lead them to get passed the thinking phase and into a mode of wanting to do something about these issues going on.” Pastor Kevin on what people can expect when they come to Q Commons.
