Dear Indie Film Lovers,
For February Indie Film Series, we travel the world. From the plains of Mongolia, to the streets of Paris, across Spain’s landscape and into the realm of racism in America, these films expose us to the inner struggles of the human existence, no matter where you live. We are very excited to be showing films from such admired directors as the Spanish master, Pedro Almodόvar (The Skin I Live In), the highly praised French director, Mia Hansen-Løve (The Father of My Children), and from two up-and-coming directors, Raoul Peck and Otto Bell. We hope you will enjoy this selection and that they erase (for a while) the winter blues!

I AM NOT YOUR NEGRO
THINGS TO COME
Using the unfinished final manuscript of writer James Baldwin, this documentary delves into the legacy of Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., and Medgar Evers and their impact on what it means to be black in America. You will be transported to the eloquent mind of James Baldwin, coming thrillingly close to his existential perception of the hidden meaning of race in America. Beautifully narrated by Samuel L. Jackson.
Nathalie (played sublimely by Isabelle Huppert) teaches philosophy at a high school in Paris. She is passionate about her job and particularly enjoys passing on the pleasure of thinking. Married with two children, she divides her time between her family, former students and her very possessive mother. One day, Nathalie’s husband announces he is leaving her for another woman. With freedom thrust upon her, Nathalie must reinvent her life. Come see. In French with English subtitles.
