The Purposes
1 Cor 5:5b-13; 2 Cor 2:5-11
1 Corinthians 5:1-13 Steve King - Senior Pastor
The Problem
The Process
1 Cor 5:1-2
1 Cor 5:3-5a; Matt 18:15-20
Memory Verse: “But actually I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he should be an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard or a swindler – not even to eat with such a one.”– 1 Corinthians 5:11 Mon - Read 1 Corinthians 5:1-2; Matthew 18:15-20. What evidence is there from the text that the Corinthians had followed the procedures outlined in Matthew 18:15-20? Why is this important? Tue - Read 1 Corinthians 5:3-5; Matthew 18:15-20. What connection do you see with Paul’s words and his assurance of Jesus’ approval and what Jesus said in Matthew 18:19-20? Wed - Read 1 Corinthians 5:6-8. How do these verses relate to the Passover meal and Jesus fulfilling all that the Passover pointed to? How is this tied to church discipline? Why is this important? Thu - Read 1 Corinthians 5:9-11 Why does Paul make a distinction between a believer’s fellowship with unbelievers, and that same believer’s fellowship with a unrepentant brother or sister in Christ? Why is this important to know and practice? Fri - Read 1 Corinthians 5:12-13; Luke 17:1-4; Galatians 6:1. What do you think are the several purposes God has to require the church to put an unrepentant sinner out of fellowship? How does restoration to a right relationship with God and man figure into His purposes? Sat - Read 1 Corinthians 5:1-13. We are studying this passage and many more related to it on Sunday. Pray that we will be a healthy, Christ-honoring church family and learn to be a more effective “one another” community.
