Thanks! As Photographer, I haven't lead a great deal of rides. When I do, it is flattering to have you who join me on the adventure. Without your participation and support for the ride leaders it wouldn't be the same. I thoroughly enjoy your camaraderie during the rides and look forward to many future rides with each and every one of you. Have a great Holiday Season and thanks to everyone. Alan Opel

February 2011

From the HOG desk Were you with Brody and his Resolution ride on January 1st when he released the clutch on 2011? He sure started the year off with the sound of a Screamin Eagle and now the other ride leaders are putting together their rides. As I look out the garage at Mother Nature’s dandruff, it may be the only chapter January ride we get in. Now don’t worry your drive belt if you are a Year Round Rider. We aren’t going to count that ride as part of the program if we are unable provide other chapter rides in that month. Our main concern when doing any ride, especially during this time of the year, is your safety and offering a ride where most EVERYONE has an opportunity to ride. Last year we threw out both Jan & Feb because of snow and still had 23 riders qualify for Gold, 27 Silver, and 8 Bronze winners. Now that, my friends, is awesome for the riders and Ride Leaders! I hope you were able to attend the seminars in January as we prepare for this year’s rides. Vickie and the Activities Committee have some fun things to offer in February. You won’t want to miss Hogs-in-a-Alley on the 5th and a real Hog-Hoedown on the 19th. You will find more information on these two chapter events along with others by visiting the website www.feelthepower.com calendar. Well I’d better get back to scooping a path from the garage to the street for the old tricycle. PaPa Smurff

GAIL’S HARLEY-DAVIDSON

Ladies of Harley is another H.O.G. benefit of membership, not a separate organization within H.O.G. or local chapters. L.O.H. was established to help women become more active members of H.O.G and their existing local chapter. It offers members a special embroidered patch and pin during the first year of membership and a L.O.H. pin every renewal year afterwards to indicate the year of membership. You must be an active female full ($45) or associate ($25) per year member of H.O.G.® to be affiliated with Ladies of Harley. Although L.O.H. is free-ofcharge to active H.O.G. members, the Ladies of Harley benefit is not automatic. If you would like to join, simply contact the H.O.G. office or visit the My Membership section of members.hog.com. Once you are a National member, you can then join as many Local chapters as you wish. Dues for American Heartland H.O.G. are fifteen dollars per year (March to March of each year) for a full member and eight dollars per year (March to March of each year) for an associate member. YOU CANNOT OPEN A SEPARATE LADIES OF HARLEY CHAPTER NOR OFFER ACTIVITIES EXCLUSIVE TO L.O.H. MEMBERS. You can, of course, organize events that may be more appealing to the L.O.H. members, but both genders must be welcome. Missy Arzola L.O.H. Officer

I’ve Been everywhere nationwide We’re changing it up a bit this year. We’ve been in Kansas and Missouri, and we will be there again, but we’re adding a few twists and many states. This time you will gather sites for point values. You will need 500 points for bronze, 750 for silver, 1000 for Gold and 1500 for Platinum. You will need to take a picture of your bike and the site, but a third item has also been added. You need to show me a G for Gail in the picture with the bike and site. How big does it have to be? Big enough for me to tell it is a G in the picture. So, it’s up to you. You can draw it on a towel, on a piece of paper, or your kids’ forehead if you like. Just make sure it is in the picture. Also, this year you can take a picture of the site itself or the sign at the site. Take the Gateway Arch for instance: It’s really big and easy to take a picture of, but maybe there is so much fog you can’t see it. I would accept an official sign at the site. However, signs pointing to the site will not be accepted. Miles to the site do not count. So, don’t forget: your bike , the site and the G! As mentioned above, you will take the picture, print it out, and bring it to the HOG Office at Gail’s. Please include your name, HOG number, phone number, and what site it is, so I can contact you in case I have a question. Be careful taking these pictures and do not do anything unsafe. The pictures must be turned in before Gail’s closes for the Holidays in 2011 (The week between Christmas and New Years). If you have any questions you can contact (me) Bob Rippy [email protected] or 816-5168166. I will make all decisions in case of dispute. 50 Point Sites HD Plant in Kansas City Liberty Memorial in KC, The Twin Drive In Sign on 291 Harry Truman’s Birthplace in Lamar MO T Bones Stadium in KCK General Jo Shelby Statue in Waverly MO Giant Canada Goose in Sumner MO Observation Tower in Shawnee Mission Park LaCygne Power Plant in LaCygne KS Big Brutus near Mineral KS Eisenhower Presidential Library Abilene KS
