LWML News
The Monster When the kids were very young, I used to tease them about a monster that lived in our house. If I went on too much though, it backfired big time and they’d end up in my bed with their ice cold feet and sharp elbows. So, before I tell you the story, don’t judge me! They definitely have gotten me back over the years. The story went like this: Ethan has a twin brother named Freddie that was born as a hideous monster. He lives in the attic and we feed him chicken bones. At night he comes out to make sure everyone is asleep and if he finds someone awake, he might very well eat them. Freddie also longs to play with his siblings, but doesn’t do well in light. He also looks like (and feels like) a beanbag. This Freddie is a weird monster! Later on he was joined by Elise’s twin Frederika (not to be confused with the Hope member by the same name!) and oddly enough, one day they both vanished. Ok, now that you have a better picture of my sub-par parenting and wonderful narrative abilities, let me ask you the question: Did you ever fear the monster in your closet growing up? Have you fared any better as an adult? We face big, scary “monsters” in our life everyday: Health, finances, relationships, career choices, and the list goes on. They do more than just make us lose sleep, they try and weaken our faith in God! I’ve battled some monsters in my time. I’m betting you have too. But just like the monsters in my kids’ story, the monsters we face are pretty much inventions of our mind. Don’t get me wrong: Health, finances, relationships, etc. are quite real *but* we have a God that is bigger and greater than all those issues. My hope for you is that you wouldn’t have fear dominating your life. We read in 2 Timothy “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control”. I know monsters that can seem very real. I’m in a season in my life right now where I have three teenagers and they are making incredibly important choices at this time. Throw in work, church, Navy and other important blessings God has given, and it could strike fear into my heart. Fear of the unknown, fear of failure, fear or loss. God speaks to these fears in the person and work of Jesus Christ! I pray that God grants you the confidence to face challenges and overcome fear in His strength. But, if you want a little extra assurance, try throwing chicken bones in the attic. In Christ, Pastor Moreno

Hope Reporter Wednesday Morning Men’s Group Starting February 8 It’s time for the guys to get up and get going! Starting on Feb. 8 at 10 a.m., all men are welcomed to meet at Hope for a new group. We’ll have fellowship and fun and we’ll start the Book of Romans. Obviously, the ladies group meets at that time also in the fellowship hall, so we’ll meet in the sanctuary. Sign up to join us today!
New Study at Wednesday in the Word Join us for supper each Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. followed by Worship at 6:30 p.m. Bible study for all ages is at 6:45 p.m.—7:30 p.m. Everything is provided, you just show up! It’s a wonderful time of fellowship and digging into Scripture. We just started a new book this week, Has American Christianity Failed?, so it’s a great time to join us!
Confirmation February 1 & 8 Our topic this month is the Apostles’ Creed and the memory work will be What Does This Mean 2 & 3. We meet while the adults meet for their Wednesday in the Word Bible study.
New Women’s Evening Bible Study in March The Thursday evening Women’s Small Group is moving to Wednesday evening! They will begin at the same time as the Wednesday in the Word Bible study to enable ladies to come out only one evening a week and join the rest of their families for dinner. Look out for sign ups for the LifeLight study from the book of John, Part 2. The study will begin March 8. Contact Nancy Gray for more information.
What Does Your LWML Look Like? Ladies, look out for an LWML survey to help Hope decide how LWML will proceed. At the present we do not have official LWML meetings, but do the work of LWML through collecting mites, mission projects, bible studies, fellowship, and just encouraging one another! Phyllis Derda, our Space Coast Zone President, and Dorothee Jones recently met with ladies at Risen Savior, including their newest members from Redeemer Lutheran. We are considering getting the two LWML societies regularly together but want your input. Pick up a survey in the narthex and let us know what you envision for Hope’s LWML society. Thank you.
LWML Quarterly Sign-Ups If you enjoy reading the LMWL Quarterly, please sign up in the Narthex for the next subscription. The cost is only $6.50 per year for four magazines. The deadline to sign up is February 26. Contact Dorothee Jones or Phyllis Derda for more information.

February 2017 Souper Bowl Sunday Every February our Food on the First is part of the national Souper Bowl Sunday. In 2015 Hope was highlighted on the Souper Bowl website for our friendly donation competition between the two football teams in the Super Bowl. Bring in your food donations and place on either the Atlanta Falcons table or on the New England Patriots table. Who will have the most donations? Genesis Food Pantry is in need of canned chunky soup, family size though any non-perishable food donations are welcome! Thank you for supporting Hope’s Souper Bowl and those in need in our community!
Family Promise Event Help our families find their pathway home! In an effort to better connect our community to our message, Box City has now become EMERALD CITY: There’s No Place Like Home Walk/ Run 5K. The two major changes this year is that the event will not be overnight and we have partnered with Running Zone to have an outstanding 5K experience! Ways to participate this year on March 10th at Church at Viera: 1) You can be a walker/runner AND still fundraise as a team. There will be prizes for each age group and for costumes. 2) You can still fundraise as a team without signing up to walk or run! The team with the most money raised will be recognized at the event. Registration is easier than ever. I have attached screenshots of how to create your team online at the Running Zone’s website. 3) You can come to enjoy the bands, inflatables, and food trucks for FREE. There will be no charge for admission, though several activities/food will have a charge. Contact Dorothee Jones for more information.
Outreach Meeting Tuesday, February 7 Did you know that Hope budgets 11% of our offerings to outreach and evangelism? Help make those important decisions as well as plan our hands on projects for the year. We meet on February 7 at 7:00 p.m. Contact Dan Goodrich, our Outreach Director, for more information.
Christ on Campus Christ on Campus meets at Longleaf Elementary School. This after school program meets once a month for one hour immediately after school and we learn through skits, games, snacks, and fun! We will meet this month on February 12.

Hope Reporter Habitat for Humanity News Our first Habitat lunch for this year is coming up on Thursday, March 16th. We will be serving a college group of about 15 students plus other workers. At this point, we are planning a casserole-style lunch, and a signup sheet will out in the middle of February. Please consider helping provide lunch items and/or helping serve on the 16th. Thus far, no official Habitat workdays have been scheduled for Hope for 2017, but we plan to add those soon. If you are interested in volunteering on your own at a Habitat site, you can check their job site information at www.brevardhabitat.com/ construction/build-locations/ to find where workers are needed and what the tasks will be. The website is usually updated by Tuesday afternoon for the week and weekend activities. If you would like to contact the volunteer coordinator (not there on Fridays) for more details, her email is
[email protected] and her phone number is 321-728-4009 x120. So, if you find yourself with extra time on a Saturday morning, you may choose to put in a few hours at a Habitat job site. Anything you can do for Habitat for Humanity is done to help others obtain affordable housing!
Thank you! Thank you! A HUGE thank you goes out to all those who supported the sock, underwear, and hygiene kit drive in January! Your donations far exceeded our goals as we collected 165 pairs of socks and 76 undershirts. Plus, with Thrivent Action Team funds to supplement our supplies, we were able to assemble 110 hygiene kits. Wow! The staff at Daily Bread Buescher Outreach Center were also very excited about and appreciative of our donations in conjunction with the "Point in Time" homeless census. Thank you, Hope members and friends, for your generosity and caring for those less fortunate!
